Il est nécessaire de traduire. It is necessary to translate. I mean after all, doesn't everybody know that great joke: What do you call a person who speaks three languages? Trilingual What do you call a person who speaks two languages? Bilingual What do you call a person who speaks one language? American. Anyway, here it goes: After a fine(literally beautiful but it sounds funny) fourth place finish at the Algarve Cup in its first appearance, the team of Elisabeth Loisel will encounter Germany. This match of preparation will be set for Thursday April 17th, in Ozoir-la-Ferrière (Seine-et-Marne)( 25 kms from Paris. Brazil trained there for the World Cup in 98. Capacity 3000 ) Kickoff is at 20:00(8:00 PM EST) at the Stade des Trois Sapins(Stadium of 3 fir trees. Very common. They are used as a designation in the hostel guide to France, I remember.)

Pichon is not going back to France. She is "malade" which usually means a cold or some type of common sickness. Not an injury. Just enough not to want to travel so far and to play in a match. I blame this horrible weather. It's great that we have four seasons. But get them started on time. "Pour affronter la sélection allemande le jeudi 17 avril prochain à Ozoir-la-Ferrière, la France ne pourra pas compter sur sa meilleure buteuse en activité. Malade, Marinette Pichon (photo) sera en effet forfait. L'attaquante de Philadelphie Charge (USA) n'a pas encore été remplacée par Elisabeth Loisel." To face the German selection next Thursday the 17th at Ozoir-la-Ferriere, France will not be able to count on their best active goal scorer. Sick(A cold or a similar thing) Marinette Pichon will in effect forfeit. The attacker of the Philadelphia Charge has not been replaced by Elisabeth Loisel. Wow, Fawcett has ankle surgery and gets called in by heinrichs...pichon, a cold, gets to heal properly... This weather does have me sniffling too, more allergies than any thing though, just wait a couple days and all allergy sufferers will have their worst nightmare. I wonder if there's any thing else behind Pichon not going to France, such as the Charge wanting to get GOOD practice time together???
Well, I took a drive over to Villanova today. I was planning on stopping for too long. I was just trying out a different route. Anyway, I looked in and there they were practicing in this horrible weather. Pichon was out there and so were the others. If she is indeed coming down with something, this was not the day to be out running around. This weather is not conducive to good practicing. The field looked fairly drenched. Hopefully, things will get better by the home opener. Well, I suggested the Ryan Giggs syndrome to some people. Who knows? The Charge do need some time to regroup and we have it.
goo practice weather today, but I assume with a scrimmage on Sunday, it was a light practice... this week looks like spring has finally arrived.. interesting report from dennism.. this is clearly club over country matter here, which doesn't happen too often in wusa... with Fair missing the Boston match, and the assumption Smith is still being nursed a bit, the hope is Arrington gets healthy in a couple weeks... Scasna replaces Fair out on the right side?? so we have Arrington, Pichon, Hoffmann, Scasna, Tullock, Makinen as the 6 field players in front of the defense... although Monroe might be there in palce of Makinen.. so basically this leaves Smith as offense off the bench, with Borisjuk as a 3rd forward if needed. If Arrington isn't 100%, then Maso de Moya might get some action
17.4.2003: Frankreich - Deutschland 17.4.2003 21:40 1:0 (75.) France takes the lead, no news on the scorer...
Starting lineups: Céline MARTY [ 1 ] Sabrina VIGUIER [ 2 ] Peggy PROVOST [ 3 ] Laura GEORGES [ 4 ] Corinne DIACRE ©[ 5 ] Sandrine SOUBEYRAND [ 6 ] St. MUGNERET-BEGHE [ 7 ] Sonia BOMPASTOR [ 8 ] Hoda LATTAF [ 9 ] Elodie WOOCK [10] Candie HERBERT [11] More or less the full squad: 1 ] Nadine ANGERER [ 2 ] Kerstin STEGEMANN [ 3 ] Linda BRESONIK [ 6 ] Renate LINGOR [ 9 ] Martina MÜLLER [10] Bettina WIEGMANN © [11] Inka GRINGS [13 ] Sandra MINNERT [15] Petra WIMBERSKY [16] Viola ODEBRECHT [17]Ariane HINGST Some considerable no-shows there. But still a pretty good team. Three subs at halftime for the Germans: 46' Bresonik (Bianca Rech) 46' Lingor ( Nia Künzer) 46' Grings (Christina Zerbe) Striker Candie Herbert scored in the 76th minute. She plays for ASJ Soyaux. Young(19) Laura Georges received a yellow in the 11th minute for a tackle from behind. She plays for CNFE FF. The team of youth players at the National training center.
The French are only missing Pichon. Match over 1-0 France over Germany.. an historic win for the French, their 1st ever over Germany..
Candie Herbert récupère un ballon mal renvoyé par la défense allemande sur un corner. Sa frappe en cloche des 20 mètres trouve la lucarne de Nadine Angeger ! Candie recovers a mis-sent pass by the German defense in the corner. She then kicks it 20 meters and the ball finds the small window or opening! of Nadine Angeger, the German goalkeeper. Here's a photo of Candie: http://www.fff.fr/common/bib_img/img/6419.jpg Ingrid BOYELDIEU was the player who replaced Marinette when she became "sick". She has yet to play in the match. 2,218 at the match. That's close to a full house. Not bad at all for a Thursday evening match.
Right. I meant that I might have started one or two other available people for France. They made some subs later on. Mugnert (Marie Ange-Kramo) 62' Viguier (Emmanuelle Sykora) 79' Herbert (Ludivine Diguelman) 81' Woock (Nelly Guilbert) 94' were the subs for France. And 78' Hingst (Navinia Omlade) was the other sub for Germany. In a very engaging match, France won 1-0 due to a elegant goal by Candia Herbert. The ball was kicked rather high and then dropped like a stone into the net. Half-volley. All the same, Germany showed themselves to be rather dangerous at the beginning of this encounter but France countered well against their adversary of the day. The best plays of the two teams were on corner kicks or stopped kicks literally. It could also mean penalties but there were none in this match. It's a famous victory.
The French will be a difficult team in group play at the WWC. I would imagine they'd NOT be in the top 2 seeds of any group, yet as a 3rd or 4th seed can make life really difficult for the entire group.. Whatever group France gets selected into becomes the group of death... assuming the Chinese fix the groups, France won't match up with China... if France is in the USA group, that's the type of 3 seed who can mess up things for the USA and take points away... nightmare groups for the USA... USA, North Korea, Nigeria and France...
Because North Korea and Nigeria will rough up the US and then France will actually play good against the US and may even beat them with their excellent strikers and solid midfield and defense? Mugneret-Beghe certainly looked like a threat on Saturday and she will be one of the keys for France.
In the elimination stage, USA would be wise to use the full roster, at least. that's my approach.. and don't worry about 1st or 2nd in the group, just making the 2nd round
Of course, there is the photo of Candie on that page. I should have known. Anyway, here's a quick translation of that page from fff.fr Historical Victory by France over Germany (1-0) This Thursday, the French women, recorded a historical victory with Ozoir-la-Ferrière (Seine-et-Marne) against the Germans, five time champions of Europe (1-0). The ASJ Soyaux striker, Candie Herbert (75th) scored(literally signed) the goal for the victory in the 75th minute of play. The first Tricolour success in five meetings played between the two nations. The first period was quickly taken in hand by the German players of Tina Theune-Meyer, who created for themselves the first opportunities of the match. First of all via their solid striker, Martina Muller struck an up-and-down shot which was stopped well by the Toulouse goalkeeper, Celine Marty (15th). Five minutes later, it was an header from a cross from the captain of the Beyond the Rhine(good way of saying German in French), BETTINA Wiegmann, which narrowly missed the German goal(20th). At an half an hour of play, Petra Wimbersky astutely tried tried a chance from the 20 meters. The shot misled Céline Marty but struck the French post (30th). Their good passing of the ball made it possible for the Germans to dominate the first 30 minutes of the match. At this point in time les Bleues captain, Celine Diacre, launched the Tricolor's counterattack. In the 40th minute of play, the player of Soyaux ran into the German half from her position. After having evading several adversaries, she found herself alone with Nadine Hangerer, the German keeper, but her shot was blocked by Hangerer. This play gave hope to the players of Elisabeth Loisel. Two minutes later, Stéphanie Mugneret-Béghé (photo) was presented at the six-yard box alone vis-a-vis Nadine Hangerer, but her attempt to lob, without real conviction, was easily blocked (42th). Right before the break, a hard strike from 30 meters by Sandrine Soubeyrand should have deserved a better fate (45th). With the return from the locker room, the Frenchwomen did not certainly want the game to remain as it was and were not going to await their chance. After some unfruitful attempts, the difference occurred following a corner badly pushed back by the German defense.(My error earlier. I said it was in the German corner without realizing, obviously, that it was from a corner.) Candie Herbert, from 25 meters, carried out a splendid holf-volley show which it placed it in a window in the goal (1-0, 75th). A splendid goal which rallied the 2,100 supporter present in the stands of Stade des Trois Sapins d'Ozoir-la-Ferrière. The score will not change. France records a historical victory against Germany, after four matches without victory against this nation and thus quite successfully carries out this preparation friendly match. The next match is programmed for Sunday May 11, 2003. The meeting Hungary-France is qualifier of the Championship of Europe 2003-2005.
http://www.fff.fr/femininesa/actu/51648.shtml lot's of photo's and isn't Loisel really happy at the end... beating Germany is a big scalp, even more than possibly beating america
