According to today's "L'Equipe", Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghé will leave Juvisy, with whom she has played since 1994, to play for the Breakers. She is currently 28, has appeared 82 times for Les Bleues and has had 11 goals She has been offered a chance to play in the WUSA before but it was Pia Sundhage who convinced her to come. Pia first attempted to come over when she was still with the Charge.

Greetings from a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Charge.

Congratulations on your 1-0 away triumph over England last month!

I would like to let you know that we here in Philly have been great admiriers of Marinette Pichon and all of the French National Team since her arrival at Villanova Staidum. I wish you the most of luck (bon chance) in your upcoming match against England. France is quickly showing itself as one of the best womens football teams in the world and Pichon is the most exciting player to watch in women's football today.

Congraulations also to Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghé on her singing with the WUSA, I wish her luck with the Boston Breakers (except when playing the Charge, of course)

Follow your dream and I am sure it will lead you to the world cup in China!

ALLEZ MADMESOELLE LE GOAL MARNETTE PICHON AND ALL OF LES BLEUES ON THEIR UPCOMING MATCH WITH ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!

We keep sending these e-mails, and the French might just keep sending more players to WUSA.

The 17 year old kid is the one to watch out for.

Will be interesting to see if Krikorian goes French a 2nd time.

Problem is, it's a crapshoot; Pichon is the best the French have, but you wonder if it's a catching lightning in a bottle-type deal...

France has proven to be superior to Denmark, which has traditionally been a rung below Norway and Germany.

And France appears to be one step ahead of a weakened England.

I'd wager there are a handful of French women capable of playing in WUSA.

And Pichon is clearly one of the top 5 talents on the planet.

France also plays a technical style similar to what the Charge do.

Just because we don't see these players, we cannot fully appreciate their talent.

Okay. There is good news and bad news on the France-England television front. Bad news is that because of the FA CUP second round matches the match will not be on Television in England. The good news is that it will be on TV in France. Canal+ for those who are interested. More tidbits of information about the match is that France's men's national team coach Jacques Santini will be attending the match along with Aime Jacquet who of course led the French men to the World Cup in 1998. Here are the last eight results between the two teams:

    10/17/2002 : England-France : 0-1,
    World Cup Qualification, Crystal Palace(London)

    8/16/2000 : France-England : 1-0
    Friendly, Marseille

    9/15/1999 : England-France : 0-1
    Friendly, Yeovil

    2/15/1998 : France-England : 3-2
    Friendly, Alençon.

    7/22/1988 : France-England : 1-1
World Cup Friendly Tournament, Riva Del Garda

    2/26/1977 : France-England : 0-0
    Friendly, Longjumeau

    11/7/1974 : England-France : 2-0
    Friendly, Wimbledon

    4/22/1973 : England-France : 3-0
    Friendly, Brion

As of November 4th, there were more than 3,000 tickets sold for the match. This is big. One regional female soccer association will be taking five buses to send around 300 people to the match! Organization is everything.

Here's a short interview with Marinette from Monday from the FFF web site:

Marinette, what did you dig out from the videos viewed on this British team?

"We analyzed their playing again by looking at the away match. That also enabled us to change some small details on our side. Elisabeth Loisel has said to us already that we weren't going to change a lot for this match. That gave us great pleasure to hear. We showed a good presentation London (victory 1-0, goal by Marinette). It will be necessary for us to concentrate on playing badly passed balls into space. We also need to think more clearly to use various movements to our advantage at the moment."

    Is the pressure already palpable?

"Not, not yet. We know well all the reasons and the objective of our presence here. It is necessary to work and to play as well as possible to qualify. It will be a first for me at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stage. I hope that this stadium will be magical for us. In England, the public was rather hard with us but we managed them well. I wish that the many citizens of Saint-Etienne will be entirely won over by our cause ".

Your season in the United States is now finished. How do you sense(literally means, smell) yourself physically?

"Well. in fact I have continued to train, individually, with the trainers from the Charge. I will undoubtedly miss something at the time of the match. The intensity of the match I will miss by not playing so often. However, with the work carried out every day, I am still in form. I will still work well to at least Saturday.(Implying afterwards, she will rest.)

England will be missing Faye White in central defense.

So, France seems to be having everything going their way, with all the injuries for England.

As long as the French mentality is attack and not sit back and defend the 1-0 result, I think France will be the advancer.

In fact, as England needs to get the road goal, there should be a ton of space to exploit in the English half.

    3-0 France

now this may be the kiss of doom, but how can England get goals without their best two players??

we know England will fight hard, but will that be enough??

    I don't believe so...

"Prime Minister Tony Blair and England coach Sven Goran Eriksson have both sent good luck messages to the England women's team ahead of the second leg of their World Cup qualifying play-off final against France in Saint Etienne.

England are just one match away from the 16-nation 2003 World Cup Finals, which take place in China next September, but they are trailing 1-0 from last month’s home leg and with three key players missing will be underdogs when they step out at the Geoffroy Guichard Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Prime Minister Blair, in his message to national coach Hope Powell and the England team, said: "I am sure the whole country would want to join me in wishing the team the best of luck. It will be a tough match but we will all be rooting for you.

"Women's football has come a long way in recent years and I'm certain that will continue. No matter what the final result, I'm sure the team will show no shortage of flair, courage and commitment on Saturday."

England men's team Coach Eriksson also pledged his support to the women’s team, saying in his message: "I would like to wish Hope Powell and her team all the very best of luck for the game.

"We played in the World Cup in the summer and it is the place where everybody wants to be. It would be a great experience and a good achievement for the women to reach their World Cup next year."

Coach Powell will be hoping that despite being without three of her star players, striker Kelly Smith and central defender Faye White through injury plus midfielder Katie Chapman as she is pregnant, the England team will produce a result against the odds to reach China 2003.

Hopefully the venue for the match will not prove a bad omen – it was at the Geoffroy Guichard Stadium that the men's team, then managed by Glenn Hoddle, was knocked out of the 1998 World Cup finals by Argentina in a penalty shoot-out.

Saturday’s game could also go to penalties. If the score at 90 minutes is 1-0 to England and the aggregate score is thus 1-1, the tie will be decided either by a golden goal during 30 minutes of extra time or – if no goal is scored – a penalty shoot-out.

The only way that England can go through after 90 minutes will be by winning the game and scoring at least two goals in the process – if they win by a single goal but the aggregate is 2-2 or higher, away goals will count double and England would therefore qualify."
