    Féminine A : Algarve Cup

And now in English, thanks to grendel:

    France 3 Denmark 0

Marinette Pichon scored twice for France in the second half as France beat Denmark 3-0 in the first game of Group B

Stéphanie Mugneret-Béghé opened the scoring for France after 14 minutes with a powerful strike.

Marinette extended the lead in the 58th Minute and extended the lead in the 85th minute striking the ball in the net from 20 metres.

Which means France is atop group B with 3 points And all of their goals came from WUSA contracted players.

    Is a France-USA final a real possibility??

Depending on how China does, obviously, but this was a huge win for them. Wagner sat until the hour mark due to a nagging injury she had while in Spirit camp.

France still has China (Sunday) and Finland (next week). Their tie today really puts them behind the 8-ball. Fortunately for April, Sweden and Norway tied, too, so goal differential comes into play...

Algarve Cup is NOT a serious tournament, you don't die to win it.

All teams have different agendas, and various experiments.

    results:
    Vendredi 14
    USA-Canada : 1-1
    Chine-Finlande : 0-0
    Portugal-Pays de Galles : 1-1
    Suède-Norvège : 1-1
    Danemark-France : 0-3
    Irlande-Grèce : 0-0

A major purpose is to introduce new faces and ticnker with formations.

The Hucles experiment, and 4-3-3 are some of the evident USA experiments.

Still the disaster in waiting is defense, but it's too late now to address that matter.

Somehow Erica Iverson always did well against Hooper.

As to France, clearly the result is the most impressive of Algarve.

And a player like Pichon is what makes France so ever dangerous.

It's a player like Pichon who will make France dangerous in China.

Even if France plays more counter than they wish, Pichon is the weapon you want in such a game.

As to Finland, is Makinen there??

    Makinen is in Portugal....

There's another thread in the international forum which had the lineups of the Finland-Sweden game.

I went to the Charge meet and greet last night at the Northeast Philly Flyers SkateZone - a decent crowd there. Players in the house - Solo, Smith, Monroe, Moore, Schillig, Hall, Benny, Heather, Jen, Arrington, McVeigh, Scasna, Maso de Moya, Tullock, Misaki, Spinelli (I think; I had to ask the volunteers when it came to some of the newcomers who was whom before I started :( )

No Iverson nor no coaching staff. Strictly the team. There may have been a couple of the invitees there, too.

So Monroe is out of school??

Any news on who is playing tomorrow, I assume it's the players you listed??

Any news of who's been the defenders, particularly in the middle??

Paul, feel free to be the intrepid reporter and spill the beans.

The setup last night wasn't exactly conducive to heart-to-heart talks with the players.

One thing my spider-sense did pick up, though; I've a gut feeling Mary-Frances will be on the sideline for a bit; she told me her rehab is 'coming along'. To come back from *two* ankle reconstructions is daunting for anyone. I think she'll play this season, just not right away.

Or else I am totally misjudging things...
