i'm perhaps too new to football to be able to really give a good opinion. for example i really can't say who should be up front among kopa, fontaine, papin, henry, trezeguet...

but behind them there are two easy names: platini and zidane

next you have to have vieira and deschamps

for defenders the incontournables for me are thuram and desailly

in goal it would have to be barthez for all his caps and the silverware that went with them, even if my personal favorite was lama.

despite my high opinions of them, i don't see how you can pick either cantona or tigana: they don't have a dozen caps between them.

that's only 7 names from me, but they're simply beyond discussion imho.

Guess what ? I completely agree with this ! bernard did not have the timing for him but what a GK ; the world splits in those who witnessed and remember the guy and others !

Really, I think it's something missing in the football galaxy that such a great and stylish player at his position won't be recognised with regard with his talent. Like Zidane, besides being very good at what he was supposed to do, 'Le Chat' really brought something more to the experience of watching a football game when at his best.

    Isn't this sad BTW ?

it's more than sad... lama was the greatest goalkeeper i ever saw play. 1v1 he seemed to just leap onto the approaching striker and eat him alive... the fear was on the other foot!
