what will this mean for US TV? https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN16L1QT
Hopefully it means more than when ESPN2 had La Liga and it seemed like that fizzled out after a year. (In other words more than Boca/River on TV and other games buried.)
This was announced months ago but I think I read elsewhere that this was just the domestic rights and that the international rights were unaffected.
http://www.ambito.com/892359-lanzan-un-netflix-deportivo-que-tendra-la-superliga-y-la-libertadores It comes a sports Netflix. It comes a sports Netflix. Netflix changed the way people consume series and movies around the world and now a new venture wants to do the same, but with the sport. This is Sportflix, a service that intends to bring the different sports leagues to every corner of the planet. The platform, which will be launched on August 30, will broadcast between US $ 20 and US $ 30 per month hundreds of sporting events. Matías Said, the vice president of the platform, defines it as "the Netflix of sports," TODOTV reported. The platform expects to have 400,000 subscribers before the end of the year. "Sportflix is a live and live sports platform that will carry the user's ability to see their favorite events anywhere with two simple clicks. It's the Netflix of sports," explains Said. Several leagues are confirmed today. From tennis (Grand Slams and Masters) to the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, UFC, Boxing, F1, Golf, Olympics and Football. Among the most anticipated football matches are Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, USA, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, England, Copa del Rey, Copa Italia, Copa MX, Copa Argentina, FA Cup, Supercup of Italy, Supercopa of Spain and some friendly of pre-season. Also, on the continental level, there will also be the Libertadores, Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana, Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and Concachampions, Said told TODOTV. Fox Sports Latin America which owns many of the properties that they are advertising denies having ever had any contact with them. https://www.google.com/amp/www.reco...-america-desmiente-contacto-con-sportflix?amp
Here's another article in Spanish. The guy behind the operation says it's all above board but it seems very fishy. http://www.lanacion.com.ar/2053455-...e-se-presenta-como-el-netflix-de-los-deportes
Mainstream TV streaming is still in its infancy so there will be a few shady people taking advantage of the grey area. Here in NYC a lot of ethnic bars/restaurants have IPTV boxes showing the channels from back home.
I can't find any US rights either, but I have always watch futbol argentino on genex.tv. The Superliga is going to be on TNT Sports and Fox Sports. Both of the channels are available on genex.tv.
Those supposedly "in the know" on twitter say that (even though it's still not showing up on the onscreen guide) it will be the same and the non-Boca and non-River games will be on TyC. Apparently Fox Sports will show River and Boca (and perhaps some other overlapping games) in the rest of Latin America. I don't see how Fox Deportes will show Boca and River as I think the game times will conflict with the NFL (they show that in Spanish on Fox Deportes, no?)... maybe it shows up on Fox Soccer Match Pass or even in Spanish on Fox Soccer Plus like they did with Libertadores before? Just speculation re the Fox.
Actually according to wikipedia (an unimpeachable source), Fox Deportes only shows NFL preseason and playoff games, so maybe it is possible that Boca and River games go back to Fox in the USA.
Fubo has populated its schedule with 8 games this week on TyC. Obviously not River or Boca. Hopefully now that Fox is already producing games domestically and for the rest of Latin America it can show them somewhere here. Maybe they had the rights before but it wasn't worth the production cost? Don't want to get my hopes up too high.
According to Fubo, TyC has 9 of the 14 games of the first match week. The listings don't include today's Tigre-Velez or Monday's Estudiantes-Arsenal. I don't know why they wouldn't be showing those two games. (I suspect they may be showing it but it isn't in the listings. I guess we'll have to tune in to find out.) Beyond that, they're not showing the River and Boca games and they're not showing Argentinos-Chacarita because it overlaps with the San Lorenzo-Racing "clasico" which they are showing.
The Argentinos-Chacarita game was postponed, I think because they just played each other a few weeks ago so they will play later on, both teams are off until the weekend of the 8th.
