I have noticed on a few occassions that Jeremy St. Louis and Michelle Lissel will repeat stories from Soccernet.com word for word. I first noticed it while watching Champions League highlights. I read a bunch of previews in the morning on Soccernet.com. That evening I watched Fox Sports World to see the highlights, and they had copied the Champions League stories word for word. I was amazed. I don't think Fox and ESPN would ever share content??
Those are mostly AP or Reuters wire stories. Many of those stories run on both espn.com and foxsports.com.
SportsCenter and sports anchors all around the US do the same thing in terms of using parts (or sometimes all) of AP leads.

Most of the information comes from sources and copy that is distributed for just that - distribution. I get the intonation that we're 'copying' illegally but such is not the case. It's a wide spread broadcasting fact that everyone copies/paraphrases each other. I see stuff I've re-written for our show WORD 4 WORD in our local paper the next day after our show....Is it copying? Nah. Do I care? No....The main goal is to get it out there for everyone to chew on. Speaking of copying - is this the REAL Nicky Butt? Hahaha! People on here make me laugh out loud some days.... J1
Ah ha! I'm glad I asked. I don't work in the business so I didn't realize this is a common industry practice. No, I'm not the real Nicky Butt. Are you the real Jeremy St. Louis?
Is it the same way with highlights of games? I notice based on the logos in the corner of the screen that a lot of your highlights are taken directly from TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, and TLN. Do you guys just setup a bunch of recorders each night and record all the feeds there in your building? I remember working at your building years ago (back when it was CKND) for a few weeks to get my work experience credits in high school. I remember back then at least, the sports guys like Joe Pascucci just had a number of recorders and tv's setup there near your newsroom recording basically all the games available on local tv in which they told me they'd later edit into a piece. So I see what you mean, everyone basically is allowed to just record everyone else for highlights right? I don't know if your building is any different now but I assume you're sharing much of the same facilities as CKND. I remember on the floor there you used to have a center hallway that you walked down with these big sliding doors on either side so that you could roll your video cams into either room. In the left room was the main studio room and on the right was a sort of newsroom with VTR editing suites at the back. In the basement was the control room and VTR room. Makes me wonder how you manage to cram FSWC into that place Phil
