"The sport" is accepted now. And UCLA is a major college, right? How about Clemson, is that a major college? Are Indiana, Kentucky and Maryland major colleges? Are Michigan and Michigan State? Are North Carolina and North Carolina State major colleges? How about Syracuse, Washington and Wisconsin? Major colleges playing college soccer is not going to make soccer "the next national pastime." The societal forces that have marginalized soccer for more than a century in this country are far more complex than that.
