Hmmm, maybe a score will flash up on one of those rectangular boxes before a commercial break if we are lucky. They did that for the Open Cup. I wouldn't expect much more.

Is the game a Fox property? Are they broadcasting it? If not why would they give it free advertising by mentioning it?

 

Um, I thought that apart from extravagant, time sensitive events (like the Olympics on NBC for instance or a pay-per-view boxing event), practically every news show in the US shows highlights of whatever sports happened to be playing that day--i.e., a sort of reciprocity of rights exists among all the major and local broadcasters. Or, in the alternative, far greater rights exist here than, say, in Europe.

You're wrong. That's never been the case except for sports that folks know they won't get any viewers unless they do cover it.

Friendlies against El Salvador don't fall into that category - unless something totally tragic - or astonishing - happens.

 

Ok, I was simply addressing the technical and legal "rights" aspects of broadcasting; I understand that lots of news shows won't show hilights of something if they deem in insufficiently newsworthy (i.e, they won't show it, although they technically can, because they have determined that their viewers don't care about it).

That said, I'd imagine that FSW Report would show highlights of EL Sal/USA because in the eyes of their viewers, it is a sufficiently important news story.

 

Yes. That is why there is the disclaimer read with every game broadcast for those leagues. And news organizations have to pay a feed service to get highlights. Those agreements include what they are allowed to show.

Recently, baseball had a disagreement with ESPN about showing games on Sundays (the conflict with Sunday Night Football) and MLB reduced the amount of highlights shown.

Remember, ESPN merely shows the Champion's League. Someone else produces it over there, most likely. And Fox probably bought international highlight rights or something like that.

As far as a report on the MNT, the fed probably owns at least partial rights to old footage so they can provide people with that if they are doing a feature story.

 

FSW Report is produced in Canada, by FSW Canada. It used to be called Global Sportslink. FSW USA simply sublicense the show from FSW Canada.

That's why you get highlights from CL games televised in Canada. Yesterday, FSW Report showed the highlights of AC Milan/Depor (televised on TSN), Bayern Munich/Lens (on RFO) and Barca/Galatasaray (because those highlights were shown at the end of the Milan/Depor telecast).

That's why when the anchors talked about Thomas Radzinski or Greg Forest or, to a certain extent, Owen Hargraves, they get pretty excited.

It's business and entertainment. Sports is not news. Now a riot at the game would be news. 149 own goals would be news. US 2 El Salvador 1 would not be news.

 

Even though it's just sports and entertainment, I think credibility is important. And they lose credibility if they don't at least mention the result on their soccer-oriented show.

 

No wonder all the news readers sounded Canadian.

 

I would like to agree with you. Unfortunately "sports" organizations rarely have "credibility". Most are now run by entertainment organizations. It's all marketing tie-in. Other things do get coverage, but only when there's self-interest involved.

 

I don't care where she's from but the gal is in the glasses is kind of cute.

 

The show is great and I would love to see some real coverage of the US ES game, hell I would love to see player and coach interviews...we will see I am sure they will at least report the score..which is probably more then we can say for sportcenter
