So I'm poking around the US Patent and Trademark Office web page, looking to see if there have been any trademark applications filed for soccer teams in Utah. Nothing yet.

What I did find was this:

So what's the deal? Is there a Fox Soccer Channel in the works?

    You set 'em up...

Man, don't you know to go to a doctor if that happens for more than four hours?

This would be great, but I think we are dreaming.

Or maybe they are planning on changing the name of FSW to FSC. I mean, they already bill themselves as America's Soccer Channel.

probably not an option because they will be carrying Super 12 and National Rugby League and possibly Aussie Rules for the foreseeable future (as long as the Murdochs want to watch southern hemisphere rugby wherever their travels take them)

just holding the name against the unlikely event of someone else trying to use/license the name

How can someone else use the name FOX Soccer Channel. I don't think they would need to get a copyright to prevent someone from stealing their corporation's name.

Sounds like a possible name change for FSWorld is in the works, especially if FSI decides to offload rugby and aussie rules onto another channel and make FSWorld soccer only.

There isn't enough inventory for FSI to run 2 English-language channels with soccer. FSI has enough trouble filling one English-language soccer-centric channel.

Aussie Rules doesn't sell in the US. FSI didn't want it for FSWorld in 2004.

The only reason why Aussie Rules was added to FSWorld at the last minute was because the Aussie Rules viewers played the "Lachlan Murdoch" card.

Southern Hemisphere rugby is on FSWorld for now only because the Murdochs say so.

FSI no longer wants European rugby.

USA rugby is on FSWorld as a time buy.

FSI can't possibly do a rugby channel in addition to a soccer channel.

If the Murdochs say it's alright to drop Southern Hemisphere rugby, then "FOX Soccer Channel" makes sense (I might work on the name a little bit). Otherwise, I can't see how this is actually happening.
