What he actually said at Ft. Ticonderoga was not, as it said in our history books, "Come out in the name of God and the Continental Congress." What he actually said, according to a couple of witnesses was "Come out if there you damned old rat!"
I'm still under a self-imposed media and internet blackout, and Knave took my last pick, so I will take the first Virginian I can think of: James Armistead Lafayette A former slave, he served in the colonial army under the Marquis de Lafayette, kept track of Benedict Arnold after he turned traitor, and served up disinformation to Lord Cornwallis before the battle of Yorktown. Val's Virginians Mr Jefferson James Madison George Mason James Armistead Lafayette
For my next pick, I am going with someone who would only be considered a founding father of the United States in the loosest sense of the term, though he did serve in the Revolutionary Army (admittedly, as a paymaster), in the Continental Congress, and did sign the Constitution. But, inspired by Knave's citation of Aaron F'in Burr and his conspiracy, I am going with the man who did it before Aaron Burr, and was expelled from the Senate as a result. http://www.encyclopedia.com/history...pictures-and-press-releases/blount-conspiracy William Blount also is a founding father of Tennessee, so I am partial to him for that reason as well. So, he would be the black sheep in the family of US founding fathers, and I am proud to have him on my team. @American Brummie is up next.
Dr. Warren was President of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress Sent William Dawes and Paul Revere to warn Hancock and Adams that the British are coming Fought at Lexington and Concord Elected a general but refused to take command at Bunker Hill , instead going into the line as a regular volunteer, where he died at age 34 Immortalized in John Trumbull painting The Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker's Hill, June 17, 1775
Haven't seen Charles Pinckney. He's my pick. Pinckney was one of the notorious XYZ agents, and oversaw the death of the Federalist Party as its presidential candidate in 1804 and 1808. He held an otherwise humdrum life. And he looked like this: @soccernutter you're up!
I'm quite sure you're not in Kansas anymore in toto! Ps...I heard someone saying "skip, skip, skip to my Lou" ....who is Lou?
Hold up all.... Let's get this back on track and determine how many more rounds we are going. In the update thread, the only one not to have 4 picks is @taosjohn. He's up next. Not looking at the clock, I'm not sure of the timing or exactly where we are, but @American Brummie and @Cop Shoot Cop have their 5th pick in I think a bit early. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/founding-fathers-whose-your-daddy-the-selection-thread.2036729/ (the update thread) At this point, Let's get caught up. taos is up to finish round 4 Unless anybody objects, let's get Round 5 today (tomorrow for the stragglers) and figure out if it is worth going on. Since I got tagged, I'll go as soon as taos has his pick. For the remaining part of round 5, is should be (in order) @Val1 (@soccernutter, but I'll pick once taosjohn does) @roby @chaski @taosjohn (to finish up round 5). So the biggest question, do we go beyond round 5? I say no as the enthusiasm seems to have waned. But I would not object to it.
