Here is the thread for us to plan the events to take place for the FC3 Weekend Celebration!!! BBQ, pick-up (no, not Kim) games, beach soccer, luau, shopping, partying, hooking up,etc.! Oops, ok, not the last one, thought I was doing the Senior Spring Break flyer for student council again... Post your ideas here and the Event Committee (We haven't even formed yet, but it sounds cool..) will take it into consideration. PM me if you are nervous about posting your ideas or if you want to ask me out...jk jk, but for real..speak up in here guys, we want to make this a Founder's Cup to remember!! Mods - it would be awesome if you could sticky this, but it is up to you...
If the thread picks up steam, I'll sticky it. If no one posts then I'll figure it's a bit early and we'll wait a month or so. Good idea though.
Hotel & Sports Restaurant Info Because I've already had someone ask me about hotels/motels close to Torero, I'm going to start compiling a list that can be posted here. Is there anyone out there that would like to know about a particular hotel (i.e., is there someone out there who wants to know about the closest Courtyard by Marriott, or Hyatt, or Hilton, or something like that?) I will also try to compile a list of sports bars/restaurants (and also restaurants that are close) - all you other locals help me out with suggestions for ones I might miss. I've already have on my list Shakespeare's , Princess Pub, Oggi's, Seau's, and Sports City. PM or email me with your requests or suggestions!
(Hotel) suggestion... I believe that some of us were considering staying at the "Hacienda Hotel" in old town. It has good location and seems like fun for a group (I have stayed there a few times before). Maybe we could do a pickup game at the practice fields at USD, or possibly a game on one of the local beaches to add that San Diego touch? Maybe split up into several teams and have a tiny tournament? Mega tailgating before the game? Group meet in old town one night to have margaritas and just hang out and walk the town? Maybe hit the gaslamp district? Just a few suggestions. Please everyone, add on... Hacienda's website: http://www.haciendahotel-oldtown.com
Hotels - Restaurants Okay, I've made up a preliminary list that has a lot of hotels (and a few restaurants) on it. Since it will be an 'on-going' list, I thought that I should actually put the listing here: http://spiritedsoccer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1005#1005
Does anyone know anything about the Founders Cup III Players Ball? I received a Spirit postcard in the mail with the offer of being entered for a WUSA Founders Cup III Championship Prize Package if you buy a Spirit Flex Ticket Plan. Included in this Prize Package is an "Invite to Founders Cup III Players Ball."
Has anyone else gotten their letter about tickets for Founders Cup III? Mine arrived today. 'Regular' prices listed are: Field Seating $150; Founders $50; Platinum $40; Gold $35; Silver $23. Season seat holders basically get $5 off, and can buy up to 4 more tickets than their usual allotment. It does say, though, that the location of the seats (including the 'owned' seats) might not be the same... We can place our orders between May 15th and June 1st. Then the Mini-plan and Flex-plan ticket holders get a shot at the best left-over seats.
I haven't gotten either of those notices yet. The time is getting closer, although there haven't been all that many games played. It flies.. Any more suggestions? Even from people not attending, but have been to celebrations in the past?
Anyone do a hypothetical pricing for tix, hotel, ground trasnportation, etc. for the weekend? The reason I ask is cuz I got an email from what's his name (it's on my work computer) from the dude that runs www.SoccerVacations.com and a package deal through them (not including airfare) ran nearly $1,000 for the whole tamale . I can't remember all the details but tomorrow morning when I get to work I'll post most of the email. I think that's a tad bit spendy.
tailgates are good. um. maybe make seau's a welcome party place on the friday night before? find some ihops for late night snacking spotting =P (no waho's right?) the bigsoccer soccer game didn't happen last year....
Wasn't that due to the bigsoccer gang being hungover? Birdbath sized margaritas in Old Town at least one night! Fear, I didn't check any travel packages. Found a flight for just over $200 and a few of us are splitting a hotel room. And I'm bumming rides off of bigsoccer Cali people. Any idea what hotels/locations the packages covered?
Broad Itinerary...(Any Additions??) So here's thinking that maybe we all hit old town on friday afternoon/evening...Carrie can get her bigass birdbath margarita at Casa De Pico...then we do the bigsoccer match on saturday...then hit gaslamp or something...hang, get dinner...get drunk...I mean, drink soda....and then sunday have a major tailgate and relax before the mega match... All the time in between can be devoted to shopping, misc. sight seeing, IHOP, etc...
I reconnoitered our hotel (The Hacienda) this past weekend with MM8. It's great. I can't wait!! MM8 and I will be conducting early morning workout regimens on the many stairs throughout the hotel (don't worry, there are elevators). Carrie, we realize this might be too early for you, so we will be sure to have a cute waiter with a tray full of Coronas within easy reaching distance for you during your workout (The Coronas, not the waiter...well...). I hope that folks can stay at the Hacienda, but in case you are looking for something a little cheaper - I stayed at the Super 8 South this past weekend, about 5 minutes drive from the University. You can just look them up at www.super8.com. Not sure if that was on Tsunami's hotel post or not. It was pretty inexpensive - the rooms are spartan, but clean. The Super 8 Hotel Circle should also be fairly close to the University.
Elevators? We don't need no stinkin' elevators. That's where I got in trouble after a few Coronas last year. Cute waiter, huh? You guys rock! I second lab's thoughts on hoping a lot of people stay at the Hacienda!
The Hacienda rocks my house! It is perfectly placed for the many festivities we can plan...and the Alcapulco in the hotel is good for restocking the Coronas when Carrie runs out....or needs a new waiter! How much fun! I am stoked! Yeah, the stairs are for sure killer...
thanks for all the good info. if driving down from LA Int. Aiport, about how long in miles or hours would it be? (for some reason fares are MUCH cheaper going into LAX than into San Diego)
It's 120 miles from LAX to Torero. That is about 2 hours, give or take - depending upon whether you get stuck in bad traffic in the LA area. That is using the address of an airport hotel as the starting point and USDs address (5998 Alcala Park, SD, CA 92110) as the ending point.
For what it's worth, the one time I drove--or rode with my son--down from LA, the traffic snarl was bad just before Del Mar. I guess everyone was going to the races. And the snarl was bad, miles and miles verrry slowly moving.
I don't know if it would be any cheaper, but be sure to check John Wayne International (Orange County's NON-International airport) - approximately 80 miles from SD. Also, Long Beach airport - not sure how far it is, but it should be closer than LAX. It is about 20-25 minutes from Orange County.
Just checked John Wayne and it is within $3 of LAX flight costs from Atlanta. I would ALWAYS choose John Wayne over LAX, especially with the distance involved. John Wayne is a small, easy to navigate airport also. Long Beach wasn't as inexpensive (surprisingly).
Thanks!! I wish I had done this before I booked my flights! Didn't think of John Wayne... already booked my flights into LAX, but its OK because we figured we'd take the coastal route on a leisurely drive down. I appreciate all the tips.
