My timeline might be a little hazy, but I think he was suspended for maybe a month to 6 weeks. Williams was the interim manager, and it wasn't until they officially let him go that Shalrie and Van den Bergh left and Peay was put in the coaching role.

It seems to me that most of the same pieces were still intact while the suspension was going on, and even if the team took a dip during that time, there was enough of a cushion that they would still be in decent shape. Even with that fiasco, we still made the playoffs.

But maybe at that point, Arena might have been too fed up and didn't feel like anyone (who had any real influence) had his back.

I don't think so. When Richie was made the interim coach at the beginning of Arena's suspension, the team basically revolted, refusing to practice. It was at that point that Shalrie and VDB left/were pushed out, leaving Peay about the only other option to Williams.

If Arena had considered coming back, his coaching staff was a shambles, the players felt betrayed by management and the team was in a freefall - and he had to wonder if he had any support from Onalfo, Bilello and Jon Kraft. Reading between the lines, it seems like that trio was just fine with him moving on - they hardly raised a finger to suggest they wanted him back.

And today it was reported that Porter yelled at Williams in front of the players.

Hopefully he used derogatory comments, Richie rats him out and then Porter is forced out!

Oh, you'd rather an endless cycle of Richie as we cycle through head coaches? Sounds like tires spinning in the sand to me.

I'd rather they just tell Porter bah bye.
Richie is insignificant at this point. I think the FO knows full well the team will not respond to him so probably zero chance if Porter gets fired he will take over even as interim but then again its the Revs.

Dishonest, huh? I wish we could get a bit more to this. Certainly the weasel factor is very high in the Revs front office, but I just can't understand why they'd blow up the best team they've ever had over something like this. The guy has always been outspoken, brash, arrogant, etc., and I can easily see how he could say something that would rub someone the wrong way. Just a wild guess, but maybe he told Bob Kraft something that none of the ass-kissers he surrounds himself with would ever do. Bellichick and Parcells also had that type of personality, but they also had enough sway to get away with it.

This wouldn't be shocking. Everyone clamming up and deferring to the league could have meant that the Krafts made the call. The elder Kraft's history with strong personalities is that he's not a fan of them. Of course many winning coaches tend to have strong personalities but while players and management come and go, ownership is more or less permanent.

Arena was wounded by the scandal. I think someone took advantage and finished him off internally. Who? Well, who is in a better position now then they were when Arena was there?

Old friend Dave Romney with a zero-to-hero-to-zero moment on Saturday (CLT vs SJE). He turns the ball over near midfield to give CLT a break, recovers to makes a spectacular clearance off the line and save a goal. CLT recycle the ball, and Romney goes for the diving header to clear it, but misses by a mile, giving Ashley Westwood an easy goal. Westwood probably would have scored anyway if Romney hadn't tried the header, but the whiff looked bad.

Romney’s a good player, but far from his best in scramble mode.

So, I am watching a random USL game because it's on a channel I get, there's Juan Agudelo getting fouled and yelling about it.

Juan wasn't one of ours. He came up with NYRB and then spent a season with Chivas and Utrecht before becoming a rev.

He was 24 by the time he landed in New England

TBH, I'd rather have him than Urruti (from a skills POV. I'm sure Urruti is more of a Caleb-guy).
