Very sorry to hear of the death of former long-time Penn State soccer coach and former U.S. national team soccer player Walter Bahr, pictured here with the Nittany Lion and PSU GK Dan Gallagher. Coach Bahr was a great coach and player, and a kind, fine gentleman. When I was a junior at Penn State, I had about a week-long tryout as a GK for the Penn State varsity team, after I had transferred from and had played soccer for a PSU branch campus. Just after I found out I was cut from the team, as I walked off the field I thanked Coach Bahr for the tryout opportunity. He then said the following to me: "Good work out there. If you weren't already a junior we would have kept you." As someone who came late to playing soccer, but grew to tremendously love the game and especially playing the GK position, those few kind words meant a whole lot to me, obviously. Indeed, nearly four decades later I still do and always will remember them.

Thank you, and Godspeed Coach Bahr.
