Week 13 Momentum table LA Galaxy finally gets toppled from their top spot with a strongly in form San Jose Earthquakes. Meanwhile the Canadian teams and the Revs continue to struggle to get any action going at all. Portland's Jeld-Wen home advantage seems to all but evaporated. Up from the bottom of the pile Sporting jumps all the way from 18th to 7th, making the move of the week with 1 loss, 3 draws and a win.
That mostly makes sense. SJ has gone on an unbeaten streak, Philadelphia makes sense. Puzzling is Toronto, who have had only draws since being destroyed by Phili, Sporting going up 11 after a draw and a win, Columbus gaining after a loss and Colorado jumping so much. I like that you've go the Points in the table - points per game would be even more telling at this point in the season.
Remember this is momentum so what happened 6 games ago gets dropped for example in the case of sporting the 4-1 loss to LA was replaced in the running total with the 4-1 win over FC Dallas which is a 9 point swing the other four games counted were 3 draws and a 1-0 loss to seattle. While it seems drastic it also reflects the fact that KC has made a major turn around from 6 weeks ago (hence more momentum). Colorado on the other hand has seen more movement in a relative way as the have played steadily to draws for the most part while DC and Chivas have stuttered. I like the ppg idea, but it gets away from what we are looking at here which is recent form in terms of momentum whereas total points in itself shows how well they have done in the season overall.
Week 14 momentum table San Jose drops back to 2nd place after one week on the top. An impressive 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids boosts LA back into the top spot while dropping Colorado down 6 spots all the way to 11th. The rising star over the week however is the Columbus Crew dropping their loss to Portland with an impressive 2-0 victory with Mendoza finally starting to look like someone that can take the Crew to the playoffs. Sporting KC has also rocketed from the bottom spot just two weeks ago all the way to the 3rd spot with no losses remaining on their 5 game running tally, will they make the playoffs? Signs suggest no, but they are much more likely now than they were 5 weeks ago. As it stands now......................
