Giving Forlan the task of taking a penalty in the last minute of a game when you're 4-2 up is a bit of a slap in the face isn't it. "Here you go son, have a crack at it. Doesn't matter if you miss." I don't think he would have taken it if the scores were level. 27 games, 1 penalty when the game was already won. He's still crap. That penalty doesn't change a thing.
Anything to try & jumpstart his confidence. Also it didn't matter if the game was won, he still had pressure. People would have really come down on him if he would have missed. Congrat's Diego on 1 of hopefully many.
You people said that Keane not letting him take the penalty kick in our last Champs League match was a slap in the face also... Apparently he can't win either way, aye?
Ya, that's how it goes. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I still want to see Diego getting in some quality playing time that includes some goals. If he doesn't do that by the end of this year, does Fergie sell him?
Watching him against Haifa - he moves very well with the ball, makes himself available, works for the others - then he fluffs the easy chances
Forlan is one of the worst players to ever wear the Man U shirt. How the hell was fergie suckered into paying 9 million for this chump?? Last night he was totally inept in the 2nd half . Its hard to believe he keeps getting chances in the team ahead of talented youngsters like Danny webber . I think the alzheimers is finally taking a hold of fergie and affecting his judgement . last nights second half tactics werent too clever.
He was playing almost completely alone up top. He's not a "hold the ball to wait for the whole midfield to catch up to the play" type player. He was also the only player who ran at the defense in the second half. (funny, I thought that was Giggs' job) Until he gets a run in the first team instead of mop-up 15 minute appearances, it's too early to write him off so soon. And sorry if I don't throw in the towel on Sir Alex right away as some people think is OK.
And another thing.... So far this season: Michael Owen - 1 goal Diego Forlan - 1 goal Do you think the scousers are slagging off St. Michael?
I just don't understand I was in the stands for the ManUtd/Maccabi game and the crowed just changed D I E G O, D I E G O all night and just exploded when he scored. I mean I like the kid, but he isn't first team material yet, he should be spending time in the reserve team. he doesn't have the speed, acuracy, or skill of a first team striker with united.
Re: And another thing.... Owen has scored 120+ goals in about 4 years. How the fuck can anyone compare owen to forlan? Form is temporary and class is permanent. he had a brief dry spell and came back with a hat-trick .Forlan will be lucky to get 3 goals all season.
I'm back for a moment at least. Just wanted to say Monker, you're the most shallow evaluater of talent on this board. There is still few players on ManU who are moving as well off the ball as Forlan; what would be ideal is for him to slide back into the midfield, but at the sacrifice of who? He's much more Scholes than Ruud both in stature and style of play. And again, watch an Argentine league game and think about the night and day aspects of that league to the EPL. It took Crespo and Veron nearly a year to catch up to Euro play, then Veron took another 6 months to catch up to the EPL...cut Diego some slack. I think he'll catch on, no doubt, but he just needs time to learn how to be the ManUnited-Striker-In-The-Box that every striker at trafford has been asked to play; he's not a natural poacher, like Ruud and Solskjaer is, and you cant expect him to be given his size. Tactically, if you want to see him really shine, put him in the CF behind RvN or Ole, then you'll see where he pays off. And he just needs to see more of the game, the pace and phyiscallity that its played and where a stacked midfield likes to find lone strikers.
four-lan scores four in reserve match Did anyone catch the reserve match the other day in which Forlan scored four goals. Man he looked good in that game, only wish he looked that good in the first team. Fortune and Brown also looked really good.
Re: Re: And another thing.... Forlan scored goals for Independiente, he just hasn't had a run in the first team to establish himself and acclimate to the Premiership. In case you hadn't noticed, the EPL is a different creature from the Argentian League. Besides, my comment about Owen and Forlan was to demonstrate that even world class strikers hit a dry spell, and we aren't going to slag him off in the meantime. Owen also had the advantage of playing in one of the top leagues in the world for years and not having to relearn how to play in it, like Forlan has tried to do (from his brief late game sub appearances no less).
What? No one bagging on Forlan anymore, after he saved United from a loss to Villa & a draw to Southampton. Maybe he's figured it out.
I agree benine. I think he may play well with either RvN or Solksjaer. You don't need another central striker playing with these two (that's why they don't play well together), you need a player to work around them. Forlan's willingness to move to the wings, come back to link with midfield and to run with the ball may well make him the best partner for both. He also has the ability to shoot from distance and seems to be something of an aerial threat (neither RvN or Solskjaer can do either). He's certainly worth sticking with for a while yet. There's a lot of adjustment to be made but he's got a lot of years ahead of him yet.
I know it was a win against Southampton. However, if you read my post Forlan saved United from a draw. Without Forlan's goal it would have been 1-1. A draw.
Forlan is a team player Forlan is a team player and contributes to the teams overall performance. Its unfortunate its taken so long to score his goals. After all you buy a striker to score goals….like Paul Scholes..he scores goals..J United have had a history of buying strikers who don’t score a lot of goals in a season. Until Brian McClair no United player since Best and Law scored more than 20 goals in a season. Which for a team of Uniteds stature is poor. I remember United buying Forests goal scoring machine Peter Davenport, who never really did much. So give Forlan a chance. I know he’s been at United for about 9 months but most of his appearances have been as a sub. I suspect moving several thousand miles has not helped. I hope he does well. His goal for Uruguay in the world cup was special. SAF does not often get it wrong…Fortune being one of the times he did get it wrong
