That's fine, I'd rather see the powers that be go strongly after the All-Star game, the only MLS event Foxboro never hosted.

i suspect that mls was rotating thru the investors anyway as a way of saying "thanks" .....esp over the period starting around '99 where investors started a downward treand that reached a low of about 3.5 thru most of last season.
so, in addition to 1996, krafts got in in '99 and '02 right?
[anshutz in '03, kraft in '02, hunt in '01, anshutz in '00 (dc run by them at this time?), krafts in '99]
    i wouldn't imagine they/we wouldn't get it again until '05.
however, now that kroenke sports (sp?) is involved in the league and with expansion planned next season....my guess is that it will be even longer than that.

seems like the investors may "bid" on hosting this event, i don't know.
but, i wouldn't be shocked if colorado got it this year and an expansion team got it next. maybe '06?

I thought the All-Star game was definitely going to be at RFK this year? And the final was between Clb and LA?

I hate All Star games so I personally would rather have MLS CUP anytime, it is a much much more important game too me.

Real Madrid, ManU, I don't care who the other team is, I would much rather have MLS Cup than an exhibition game. You know, something that means something. I can't stand any All-Star game, they're all lame. And yes, I think it would be if Real Madrid came.

if kroenke gets it in colorado this year....then this would be likely, sure i'd buy it. ['01 hunt, '02 kraft, '03 anshutz, '04 kroenke, '05 hunt]

if its true about the "bidding" for this stuff (similar to the usoc games, esp later rounds)....i'm disappointed. it really should be about spreading this around the country.

out of the 8 mls cups....
    foxboro (3), 96, 99, 02
    l.a. (2), 98, 03
    rfk (2), 97, 00
    clb (1), 01

one would think that maybe chicago, in soldiers field, would be pushing for it this year as well. i still think colorado is going to get it if they're really making ovatures for it this year.

Considering that the CRapids should be announcing today/tomorrow about their new stadium plans right in downtown Denver (next to the current Pepsi Center), I think they would probably get the 06 or 07 MLS Cup, not this one. 25 to 28K stadium built on European ideals...

They made the announcement that was schedule, all that it was was the announcement that HOK would be the architect.

Groundbreaking date and location are expected to be announced later this year.

Even if Real Madrid does come here to play, if it is not against the Revs I could care less.

i disagree. they didn't throw mls cup to columbus until a couple years after the open. the rapids seem like they have a good front office in place, they "go after" new fans, etc... i don't think its out of the question to give it to them this year and again in '08 let's say.

that being said, seems like mls wants whatever venue that has it to be able to get in the news somehow/someway. gillette drew 61k+ (they love to use that soundbite in video collages), and last year's l.a. game was a "tribute" to another soccer-in-america milestone. that seems to work against the rapids in this instance.

if i were mls, i might be at a crossroads right now with regard to mls cup's future. meaning, do i want to keep this rotation thru the investors or do i want to turn l.a. into soccer's version of the super bowl in new orleans. i think there are arguments to be made both ways.

What, because I could give a ********** about European teams? Sorry, I don't have any interest in a glorified scrimage between a team in off-season form and a team slapped together by people voting online. I'm also not interested in dealing with the idiots who come to Foxboro only when there's a Euro-side playing, especially after the Juve-Barca game last year.

Actually, you know what. I hope they do have the All-Star game with Real. I'd be happy to sell my ticket for $75.00, $100.00 or whatever it is they'd be charging. I'd make back almost a third of my season ticket money that way. Works for me!

Read this to see what happens when people only come to see Euro teams.

200 mothers beat their kids in shopping malls and leave them with brain damage, does the country have a problem with mothers injuring their kid?

the answer is no, and the answer is no to the question "are the fans at the Juve/Barca game the same type of fans that show up to all Euro matches?" Get over it and pray you get a great soccer match (Real Madrid vs MLS Allstars).

I think the 60,000+ crowd for MLS Cup 2002 made a much bigger statement to the US sports world than selling out a little stadium, however great for soccer it may be, in LA.

It's true, MLS had the great fortune to have the home team make the Cup in 2002 (and there's no way Cup '02 would have drawn anywhere near as many if the Revs hadn't been involved) - maybe the regular season champions in each division should get a shot at hosting (if they aren't piss-poor draws like SJ or Dallas).

Nothing says "minor-league" to the ESPN's of the world like a "championship" game with 25,000 attending. You get an NFL-sized crowd and they notice.
