I know we have a whole sub-forum dedicated to our Argentinos playing abroad, but I don't recall seeing a spot exclusively for the foreigners playing in our league. Historically a lot of extranjeros have played an important role in the Argentinean league, so I figured it would be a good idea to start a thread in which we could follow the ones currently playing in Primera and even honor those of the past. There have been plenty of South American (Colombian, Uruguayan, Paraguayan, etc.) players who have impacted our league, and we have even seen some Asians, Africans, and Mexicans in our local teams. To kick off the thread, Michael Hoyos is an American-Argentine who recently debuted in Estudiantes, though Nick May may be the first American of non-Argentine descent to join our league: http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/...t-lands-pro-soccer-deal?urn=highschool-267738 Everyone is welcome to contribute to thread. In fact, the more, the better.. All news in regards to past, present, and future extranjeros de la Primera Division belongs here.
There are currently 4 foreigners in River's first team squad: - Juan Manuel Diaz (Uruguayan; left-back) - Adalberto Roman (Paraguayan; central defender) - Josepmir Ballon (Peruvian; defensive midfielder) - Rodrigo Rojas (Paraguayan; attacking midfielder) There are also many foreigners in our youth divisions, including players several different countries. I'll try to make an updated list of all the foreign players playing in Primera later. If anyone can help that would be appreciated.
At Boca's first team squad right now there are only two foreigners. Gary Medel (Chile, defensive mid) Orlando Gaona Lugo (Paraguay, forward)

Please let me know if there are any mistakes or if I missed anybody. It took a lot of time, so I'm sure there's a mistake somewhere in there!
pretty interesting about Nick May. Maybe this will open the door for more Americans to go down and play in argentina. that can only help get the league more exposure here because right now I am going crazy with not being able to watch all the games on TV. Online streams are terrible Also, interesting that there are 0 brazilians now, when 2 of the best players in Brazil are Argentine (Conca and D'Alessandro) always happy to see our players doing well abroad, but we need to get better at keeping them at home
A couple foreigners were on the mark this weekend for the 6th round of the Apertura: - Jairo Castillo (COL) scored in Godoy Cruz's surprising 4-1 victory over Lanus. Mario Regueiro (URU) scored Lanus's only goal. - Gabriel Cichero (VEN) scored in Newell's 2-1 win vs. Argentinos Jrs. Gonzalo Vargas (URU) scored the only goal for the defending champs.
To add more to that, before Santiago Silva, Gonzalo Vargas was the last foreigner to be the top scorer of a tournament. Also, i'm not completely sure but i believe that Iván Moreno y Fabianesi does take foreigner spot for Colón(he was born in Spain).
Americans should come here more often, it just does not make sense for them to go to college for 4 years then go to the MLS. They will be 22-23 by then and have really no potential. I knew about the Hoyo's brothers(Kevin being the other).
Tigre had two american keepers some years ago, neither one of them with any luck at the club, before they got promoted to the first division there was this guy Dan Kennedy, but he didn't get to play a single match, i think he went to Chile afterwards, and once in the first division there was Delvin Countess, but he they reached an agreement for him to be released because he got appendicitis shortly after he signed.
A couple of foreigners scored in Round 7 of the Apertura: - Alvaro Navarro (URU) scored two goals in Gimnasia (LP)'s 3-0 win vs. Huracan. - Giovanni Moreno (COL) not only scored in Racing's 4-0 victory vs. Lanus, but was also chosen as the man of the match by Ole. - Ivan Moreno y Fabianesi (ESP) put Colon up 1-0, though his team would later lose 3-1 vs. Boca.
Mario who was the Tigre backup goalkeeper from the US about 2 years ago when they ascended to Primera division. I remember the quote from Ole.com "I love paying in Tiger" referring to the young American who joined Tigre .. nvrmd.. Andres to the rescue..
Octava fecha: - Gonzalo Vargas (URU) gave Argentinos Jrs. the victory over Banfield by scoring the only goal of the game. Third goal of the season for the Uruguayan. - Jairo Castillo scored the opening goal for Godoy Cruz, who would later tie 1-1 with Huracan. That's it for this week. Not a great round for anybody really: only 13 goals in 10 games. In fact, 10 of the 20 teams that played didn't even manage to score a goal.
A great round for a lot of foreigners. Many of them were a key part for their teams this weekend. Novena fecha: - Pablo Aguilar (PAR) scored Arsenal's only goal in their 1-0 victory over Quilmes. - Three foreigners scored in Godoy Cruz's 4-1 win vs. Independiente: Jairo Castillo (COL) scored the 1-1, Carlos Sanchez (URU) scored the 3-1, and Jorge Curbelo (URU) scored the 4-1. The only other foreigner in Godoy Cruz's squad is Fabricio Nuñez (URU), who only played the last 20 minutes of the match. - Gonzalo Vargas (URU) was on the mark again for Argentinos Juniors as they faced Gimnasia (LP), one of his ex-teams. Emilio Hernandez (CHI) also scored in the game, which ended 4-2. - Giovanni Moreno (COL) scored Racing's final goal in their 3-0 victory vs. Huracan. - Ivan Moreno y Fabianesi (ESP) put the ball through the net for Colon, giving them an important 3-2 win vs. Olimpo. Juan Tejera (URU) scored for the losing side. - Adalberto Roman (PAR) gave River a last equalizer vs. Banfield (the match ended 2-2).
who do you guys think is the best foreigner in the primera right now? Gary Medel is a great player, but hes pretty reckless so i'd say its between Silva and Moreno, but this Moreno has been incredible so far. I didn't know much about him before, but man he looks good
I wonder who the last British player in Argentina was? There were loads in the late 19th early 20th century. They introduced the game, hence all the english club names (All Boys, River Plate, Newell's Old Boys, Chaco For Ever....) I wonder who the last British born player in Argentina was?
Babington was born in Argentina actually. Not sure who the last british was but in the 60's Newell's signed 3 scottish brothers. The best foreign argentine right now, hmm it's a bit complicated. I'd say i'm surprised with Cichero, he had a so-so start but now earned his starting spot in Newell's backline, Moreno is slowly getting the attention too. Silva has been somewhat inconsistent so far this season. Also, have you seen Emilio Hernández's goal, from 41m, sure it was Sessa's fault but still. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5_ZlG-8YT0]Emilio Hernández's goal[/ame]
Hernández goal was a freak, the goalkeeper had a rush of blood to the head. Gimnasia 2-4 Argentinos Juniors, it was an entertaining game to watch but neither side looked convincing in defence. Are there any foreigners playing in Primera B Nacional or lower?
there are many foreigners in the Primera B. At Rosario Central D) there is a Peruvian Roberto Guizasola. At Belgrano, there are 3 Colombians. I also know Gimnasia de Jujuy has 3 Uruguayans but I'm not sure of their names. There is also a Hatian player called Judelin Aveska at Independiente Rivadavia, in Mendoza. I am sure there others
On the second division, there's a very peculiar collection actually, besides the usual uruguayans, paraguayans and colombians, there's also a peruvian and a haitian like leomessi1919 mentioned, but there're also others, there's the former San Lorenzo, Felix Orode, who's nigerian playing at CAI. There's a mexican at Instituto, Eduardo Rergis. There're three brazilians, Homero Santori(Almiranto Brown), Roberval(San Martín SJ) and Gustavo Maccarone(Tiro Federal). Later i'll make a list of foreigners in the second division. Attention Paraguay, Independiente's youth defender Cristián Baez scored his first goal on his third match playing for the main squad, and not just another goal it was the single goal in the 1-0 victory of Independiente in the classic against Racing, no less. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUrLh-x7hqQ&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_fresh+div-1r-3-HM]Baez's First Goal![/ame]
Decima fecha: - Hernan Rodrigo Lopez (URU) scored a penalty in Estudiantes 2-0 win vs. Olimpo. - Santiago Silva (URU) scored 2 goals in Velez's impressive 6-0 victory vs. Colon. - Cristian Baez (PAR) gave Independiente an important 1-0 win in the Avellaneda derby vs. Racing.
