This is a little political so I apologize in advance. In another post zverskiy yobar said Libertarian sec of state candidate named Matt Beauchamp is a Fire fan. I thought maybe we should all get to together and see how many votes we can get him. I'm sure most of us don't vote 3rd party usually but does anyone really care who our secretary of state is? I sure don't. Maybe this is a stupid post but I thought I would throw out the idea.
i wrote him an email telling him i would vote for him and got a reply the same day. i think hes a hilarious guy and although he doesn't have a chance im proud to give him my vote.
Yeah I know this might be Fire related (it's a stretch) but I'm gonna have to move this to the Politics fourm. I'll leave a redirect though.
Nothing against Matt Beauchamp, but we've had Secretarys Of State in Illinois that have run the gamut from stuffing bribe money in shoeboxes to funnelling bribes to get licences into their campaign funds, regardless of party. I, and anyone else who gives a damn cares. If you don't give a damn, then you get the government you deserve. I have voted for people for worse reasons than being a FIRE fan. However, Jesse White gets my vote.
Re: Re: For those who are voting in Illinois on Tuesday I probably shouldn't say I don't care because we don't need another George Ryan in the Secretary of states office but when it compares to the governors race its not a huge deal for me and its also very predictable as Jesse White had a giant lead(like 40 points) in the latest poll I saw. So I shouldn't say I don't care but I'm almost 99.9% sure Jesse White is going to cruise to a victory so I figure I'll vote Beauchamp.
I can't tell you much about voting in Illinois or who the current canidates are. But if you are voting for someone just becuase he is a fan of your team, then that is the biggest advertisement why the rights to vote should be taken away from some in this country.
A message from Illinoisans to New Yorkers: We have plenty of business sense. We have to make a living here. We admit to small lapses in judgment from time to time, but we are not dumb enough to let someone move to our state just to run for the senate. If someone tried to do that we would kick her ass. Game, set, and match. Welcome to Illinois
I'm not voting for him because he is a fire fan. I planned to vote for him and another Libertarian because I don't care for the big 2 candidates in those races and I didn't find out he was a Fire fan until today. I know there not going to win but it makes me feel better. I'm not voting for Rod Blagojevich who is the democrat going for governor and if I found out he was a giant fire fan I wouldn't vote for him still so I'm not just voting for the guy because he's a fire fan but that definatly doesn't hurt his cause.
Re: Re: For those who are voting in Illinois on Tuesday Democrat Rod Blagojevich "...caused quite a stir in the Quad Cities this week with comments he made about Secretary of State Jesse White. Blagojevich was asked about White's assertion that no state investigation is needed in his office, and responded thusly: 'Jesse doesn't want people to look in the Secretary of State's office,' which he referred to as a 'cesspool of corruption.'" --Capitol Fax October 24, 2002 Honestley I would be suprised if Jesse lasts his second term (which he'll likely win). The feds are supposedly already building a strong case against him which will make Ryans orgy of corruption look like amatuer night.
Here is a link to a tribune article from January. Its on Cohns website (i dont support her , it doesnt require registration). http://www.cohn2002.com/pages/927942/index.htm i think this line sums it all up. "Mr. White, that's what you said last time. And the time before that and the time before that. Maybe Illinois needs to be more careful about the people it chooses to be secretary of state. "
A message to the Illinois from the rest of the free world: We all feel that it's rich that anyone form the Great State of Illinois is going to lecture any other state (except maybe Florida) about voting etiquette. I take back my earlier analogy about voting rights being taken away from idiots who will only vote for a fan of your team. Silly me forgetting you live in Illinois and are still alive and not considered deceased, because obviously any live person in that state doesn't vote. Game, set, and match indeed.
Illinois might be corrupt and dead people sometimes do vote from beyond the grave but I'll be one of the few people that are alive to vote.
As if New York has been any better regarding politics. We can't help it Daley learned his lessons from the masters over at Tammany Hall.
Sure, if you want to compare 19th century New York with 20th and 21st century Chicago you might have a point.
So, is your garbage collection still Mafia controlled? How are Mario Biaggi and Meade Esposito doing these days?
1. No. Thank you Rudy G. 2. Convicted Felon. Esposito died a few years ago. I am sure he will be voting Daley in the next election.
Yeah because Chicago has NEVER seen a prominent public offical go to prison before.... Sorry, but NY isn't any less corrupt than any other major American city.
Never said it was. But if we are comparing, Chicago takes the cake, and even a homer like you must agree.
What are the judging criteria? Total dollars amassed? National influence? Longevity? The first Daley did reign for a longer period of time than most individual machine politicians but he wasn't the national kingmaker a guy like Tweed was (Tweed never would have allowed HIS convention to become as disrupted as the '68 Chicago one). And the Chicago Machine wasn't exactly subtle in its methods but then neither were the New York machines before the mid70's. Just like Koch and Giuliani mostly successfully fought corruption in New York, so the death of Daley I in '76 and numerous Federal stings, including Silver Shovel, marked the disintegration of the Chicago Machine. Daley is still a force in Chicago and Cook County but the days of absolute control over patronage, massive irregularities in voting records and control over the State legislature are gone. In both cities, it has been the movement of the population to the 'burbs and the efforts of the Feds in busting the machines and organized crime that have lessened their influence more than anything else. Still, I'm sure if I asked a few NYC reporters what was going down over there, I'd get an earful - off the record, of course - just like I'd get here in Chitown.
Is this Jesse White is the same guy who put together the "Jesse White Tumblers" that entertained the crowd at Bulls games? I was in Chicago for college for 1989-1993, I remember Jesse ran for Cook County Recorder of Deeds back then.
yes it is.and this is one of the reasons he has been able to dodge contreversy. He has an image of a public do gooder for his work with inner city kids. When in reality he does very little, many of the Felons he has surrounded himself are grown up tumblers.
Not necessarily. If this were the case our current governor would win re-election but he's so unpopular he wouldn't stand a chance so he decided not to run. He's actually not a convicted felon but he probably should be for what he did when he was secretary of state.
