Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? Still can't find anything ... http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm Did find this though ... http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=e8qp6n.5.28 FC Dallas was almost FC Texas.
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? I could go for FC Houston. The thing I like about a plain old name like that is the team can just develop its identity on its own rather than through a forced marketing idea.
I'd go with Generals (General Sam Houston) or, if the rights could be acquired, Oilers. I mean the city got a new football team and passed on the Oilers name for Texans. Probably means they wiped their butts with the copyright papers for Oilers. Of course if you wanted to be cartoony and futuristic, the Rouston Rastros. (Ree Riz Reorge!)
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? No they weren't. FC Texas is what FC Dallas (MLS) named their youth club, since there is already a FC Dallas in the calssic league. That is why the logos look the same. FC Texas wears the same hoop unis and have the almost identical logo.
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? It should be Houston Rovers. 1. Houston space theme. 2. soccer traditional name 3. US style plural mascot. keeps everyone happy. But I fear something dumb like Houston Energy.
I think the news says that Hotspur is the leading vote getter for the name the Houston team poll. Second was the Toros. We should name our team after an established team and be: Joe Public Houston! Eh...and I own a Dallas jersey. 8(
Houston Lone Stars -or- for the Euro-style suck ups Lone Star Houston Houston Hurricanes has a nice ring to it, but is probably an insensitive name given the events of the last year. It would be fitting since San Jose's team was also named after a natural disaster. Texas pro-sports teams seem to choose nicknames that strongly stick to the cowboy/rancher/oilbaron/gunslinger motif. I would like to see MLS integrate with that theme instead of screwing it up with something that leaves the locals scratching their heads.
I would like either Independiente Texas 1836, which has teeth with the Latino futbol man or a more Americanized MLS title would be Texas Generals 1836. General Sam Houston...we have Alegria!!!
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? They will announce a team naming contest tomorrow, per the Houston Chronicle.
Latin name would work better than an American or Euro-styled name. I'm going to go out on a limb and say most of the soccer fans in the area are of latin descent. Pisses me off to see a team move tho, I've been though it and know what the SJ fans are going though.
A soccer team is for everybody not only the latin descent... San Antonio Spurs is located in a strong hispanic city, but this team is highly supported by the latin people despite its american name...
Houston Who Was Not Supposed To Be Here or Houston Mercenarios or Houston Bastards or Houston MLS Shame something like that Now seriously Houston Appolos
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? Like it!! I really hope they leave the whole Quakes identity alone, especially with the already rumoured re-establishment of a team in the Bay Area as early as 2007. I'm still quite angry all this has happened but it might yet prove good for soccer in the U.S. Think of this, The Quakes start again in 2007 in their traditional home area. There's still the Galaxy rivalry, now there's an even more bitter rivalry with Houston. Both Houston and the new Quakes will have SSSs. MLS will hopefully be establishing itself in Houston, plus there's still the traditional fan base in SJ they maybe even more committed after all this. I'm still really Pd OFF for the fans of SJ, they kept turning up in numbers and it wasn't their fault their team got taken away from them. I just hope that in the meantime they can get at least a PDL or USL team off the ground and that the Quakes will be back stronger and better than ever in 2007.
I've already agreed with Appolos, Lone Star Houston sounds a possibility given the current MLS trend for Euro type names, and obviously it fits well with Texas. Having said that, and I don't suppose anyone who matters is listening. May I respectfully suggest that the name is chosen by poll in the local Houston paper. That way the fans have their own team name.
Re: HOUSTON QUAKES? Or another name? I think MLS could have its first orange team to tie into the Houston Astros tradition.
