Please drop me a note if you're going to check out this weekend's games at the Abbott Sports Complex in Lincoln. The Charge are playing Atlanta tomorrow in a WUSA scrimmage at 2PM local time, followed on Sunday by a match against your Huskers (minus Latham and Boyd, obviously). We in the Charge forum would like to see how the team did and the result. Thanks Paul Hanlin Jr. Moderator, Philadlephia Charge forum
I'd be able to hook you up with a report on one of those two. I was at the NU-Atlanta game tonight (3-0 to the Beat, BTW) and will be at Philly-Atlanta tomorrow afternoon. I'd go Sunday, but I already traded in that day off on Thursday so I could cover girls state basketball (also in Lincoln). I assure you Philly will win ... it took the Huskers almost an hour just to put a shot on net.
Thanks Who scored/assisted for ATL, do you know offhand? We play them tomorrow at 2PM your time (I think that's the start time...) Paul
Short version for the slightly interested: Nebraska 0-3 Atlanta A: Hooper (Burt), 15'; Burt (Hooper), 32'; Antongiovanni (PK), 72'. See the Beat forum for the in-depth shizzy.
Here is a report of the Nebraska v Beat game from the Beat site: http://www.theatlantabeat.com/345791.html Here is a report from the Husker site (it's pretty much the same thing): http://www.huskersnside.com/ViewArt...25&SPSID=38&SPID=26&DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=5668 Here is a Adobe Acrobat .pdf scoresheet: http://www.huskersnside.com/pdf1/1669.pdf?ATCLID=5668&DB_MENU_ID=325&SPSID=38&SPID=26&DB_OEM_ID=100
question about Univ. of Nebraska soccer ok, why doesn't UN start a men's program...i figured it is a very big school and can start a men's program. is there any interest, or discussions going on on campus? does anybody know anything about it? just curious... sincerely, iowa007
I seriously doubt that any Big 12 schools will start a men's soccer program. Many are football/basketball schools where there was traditionally little or no interest in soccer, where they wouldn't have any soccer teams of any kind if they had a choice, and where there were never going to be men's soccer programs, with or without Title IX. They now have varsity soccer at football schools like Nebraska and Missouri, and the only reason is Title IX. Can you imagine the culture shock when that strange game that's played with a round ball first appeared at those schools? Even though they've had a team for several years, I still can't believe they have a soccer team of any kind at Missouri. Who would have believed it could ever happen?
There has been a movement afoot at Texas to turn the men's club team into a varsity team. They met with the AD a few months ago and he was supposedly open to the idea and wants to continue discussion. I will not be holding my breath.
thank you for the info thanks mike for the information ( and everyone else), i should have guessed it...... but, hey, chuck yeagly started a very succesful soccer program at indiana. a big footbal mad area. so it could happen in places like texas, missouri, nebraska, and oklahoma..... iowa007
May I ask why is it so hard to believe? It is smackdab between the traditional hotbed of midwestern soccer and an MLS city?
Exactly! Half way between. Not at one. Not at the other. And the school has no tradition of soccer that I know of.
There's actually a lot of intramural soccer here in Lincoln. Lots of foreign students taking mathematics or agronomy classes need their footy release. I doubt there's enough interest to get many people to a men's soccer game if the men did get a program anyways. Besides, our state university is taking a big hit from budget cuts and expansion and investments are dirty words these days.
