I know that we've gone through this topic dozens of times, and I also know that Kazaa Lite is the official file sharing program of the BigSoccer Music board, but I have a new iMac (replaced my pc) and I need a file sharing program. Both Kazaa and KL are only available for Windows. Suggestions from the Mac crowd? Are Gnutella-based programs like Limewire the only real choice for Mac?

There's Limewire, Aquisition, Direct Connect, iShare, Neo and a couple other lesser known ones.

I use Limewire rarely if ever. I have Virtual PC 6 and run Kazaa off of it. It's SUPER easy to move files between VPC and your Mac.

BTW, you made a great investment you won't be dissapointed.

I use Acquisition (faster and more stable than LimeWire imo), Neo, a Kazaa shadow client (it has its drawbacks. It's only compatible with earlier versions of Kazaa; so as more people upgrade you are left with fewer potential hosts.) and XNap which runs on the same network as WinMX. (Warning: you can find a lot with XNap, but it runs soooo slooooowly.) There's also a Soulseek client in its early stages of development that I plan on trying out in the next few days.

You can find more info on Mac file sharing at Mac digital audio, Zeropaid, or do a search for file sharing apps at Versiontracker. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac, obie.

Panic, run Software Update. I got Java 1.4 last week when it told me that a new Java was out.

EDIT: Just did a quick search on Versiontracker. Here's the link to get the new Java: http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16909

    Thank you so much.

    Downloading it now.

I ran software update, and it didn't reply with that. Plus I need to clear my hard drive, I've got 3,000 songs and 200 pictures.

    I need a backup harddrive

    thanks,

    I'm screwed now.

Need an external to clear up enough space.

I'll do it in the coming weeks.

    Thanks again.

Great guy, likes great music, supports Chelsea...2 out of three ain't bad.

Limewire did not pass my Apples In Stereo test last night. If a search on a file sharing network cannot turn up at least 10 songs by Apples In Stereo, it's not worth a damn.

I'll move on to Acquisition next...

It's tough as hell to get songs from lesser known groups on many of the Mac p2p clients.

Virtual PC 6 running Kazaa lite is the way to go.

I might try this. Now, how much memory/HD space will running Windows take? And will I need to get Virtual PC and Windows?

Virtual PC 6 doesn't take up much memory at all, VPC6 is about 25.3 megs and then Win200 is about 54 megs.

Yes, you'll need Virtual PC 6 and whichever WinOS you want to use. I'm running 2000. PM me for more.

Thanks. I think I have access to Virtual PC and I'll see if I can get my hands on Windows.
