GREAT BOOK! A must read for any referee wishing to make the jump to the 'next level'...regardless of what that level happens to be. I plan on rereading portions before the start of each season...if I can just remember where I last left it.

    BTW, I recommend this book!

    The name says it all
Evans' book is a great informational book when you keep things in context. A lot of the techniques he discusses and goes into detail translate very well into the higher levels of the game, I'd say probably around a 5 or 6 doing college ball and up.

If you're just get started out or still in your early years (less than 5) of soccer, doing mostly youth games, then I'd recommend first going through a book by Carl Schwartz called Soccer Officials Guidebook for a Crew of Three Officials: Diagonal System of Control.

    Here's a link: Amazon.com

It covers all of the fundamentals and more of soccer officiating in great detail. Once learning all of the ins and outs through this book then go back and re-read Evans' book on methods of application and situational instruction. Always remember that different techniques need to be applied based on the skill and experience of the players, so some of Evans' stuff wouldn't necessarily apply to youth soccer.
