Our backline looked the best it EVER has against the Crew. Never have I seen such a solid display by Metro. Timmy only had to make really 1-2 saves unlike the usual 4-5 out of his head saves he has to make. DiGi looked confident on the ball, but a little hesitant to join the play. Seems he needs a little more practice time with his mates. Was he only here for 1 week of practice? Ricardo Clark is the real deal. He made moves with the ball that no Metro except for Tab has made. He did hold the ball too long in some situations. He is ready for primetime. He is young and the more PT he gets, the better he will become. He will be a horse for us. Magee has got the goods. When Guevara is here I can see Mike comning off the bench arounds the 70 min or so and adding instant offense. With some support he can be a dangerous player. Can create scoring opportunities 1 v 1. Showed his youth as he held the ball to long or tried to make an unselfish pass instead of shooting. Can't really hold that against him as he is a 19 yr old starting in his first professional match. Mathis is not in top shape yet. Still had the spark. The rest of his teamates were not on the same page with him. Playing as deep as he is, he is not effective. Needs to play up top or roaming behind the top two. Needs another month to get into shape. With Moreno and Guevara he will pile up the points. Moreno was an island out there. Zero support. Made some nice 1 v 1 moves that amounted to little as no suppport arrived. With Guevara I also feel he will pile the goals up. Worked his ass off. Glad to have him here. Not so bad now is it Chicken Littles?
You are a moron. I am not. I've seen 8 World Cups and been to 40 EPL games. Moreno is horrible. Mathis is fat. Clark is overrated. DiGi is useless. LeBlanc is the worst player I've ever seen. Magee will never be a professional. Fire Bob.
Wow I have to agree with you, the team did look good out there. they can't help the goal, it was just one of those good conerkicks that couldn't be defended. at least it wasn't one of the typical Metro conceded goal, on a stupid turnover. The only problem I have is that with Mathis in Midfield, that just leaves Moreno up front to be a real striking threat, though with Guevara coming, that should change...assuming Clint shows that he still has heart to be a sticker and gets his head out of his ass and not yell at the ref on every call.
Oh, and I forgot to mention we played on paper the best team in the East to a scoreless draw for 88 minutes and the team we have on the field will be dramatically different and better in two weeks.
I agree that Mathis is not effective being so far back. But he is the first person that Bradley will choose as a "Midfield General" (I'm getting sick of that phrase) until Guevara gets in the game. Moreno had more that just 1 v 1 moves, he also had a few 1 v 3 moves through out the match. IMHO, he shouldn't have been playing forward. If Guevara isn't playing aganst LA this Saturday (it's very likely he isn't), maybe Moreno should drop back and put Mathis & Magee up front?
I think it looked much like a work in progress - which I thought it was. Allthough, it was a work that when it finally comes together will be better then most probably expect it to. Eric, watching from home the defence was exceptional when put into context with past performances against the Crew. The one goal was unfortunate, but for the 89 minutes prior, it was fantastic. I just have a feeling that at some point in May this team will really begin to show how good they can be.
I'll put it this way: I was more pleased with their performance this game (despite the loss) than I was for 90% of the games the end of last season. For a game I *expected* to be a building game, I agree, they did show a lot of cohesiveness. Practice is one thing- you really can't master working together unless you're in a match situation. I have more faith in this team getting it together than I ever had under OZ.
If the Metros had snuck a cheap goal in the ninetieth minute of Saturday's game, this board would be a very different place, despite the fact that the performances of the players would have been identical. Of course, then people would be proclaiming us champions of the world instead of the single worst professional team in history, but at least it would have been cheerful.
-midfield was horrible..looked simply flat -No one moved for each other on the pitch -Balls were never played into space -ball was not once switched to the other side -LeBlanc is a waste of a uniform -Digi looked very out of place, like a lost schoolboy -Moreno used the same 2 moves all night, useless -Only one shot was attempted from outside the box -Clark was above average at best 2months of training should of resulted partial quality -Not enough teamwork-hardly any give-go's
No moderator, don't. JRedknapp11 is obviously a Liverpool fan and must have seen counltess Liverpool games. He obviously knows a lot about soccer, I mean football. Fire Bob.
What does the EPL have to do with good soccer? Anyway, I agree with a lot of what eric d said, though I'd back off on the praise for Clark's dribbling abilities. He's clearly comfortable with the ball - especially for a d-mid - but let's not jump too far overboard. And I think people should lay off LeBlanc. He did fairly well for a rookie playing his first game - and out of position, at that. He could end up being a Jesse Marsch type player, which would be nice for the Metros to have as an option on the roster.
Yup, we lost 1 game. To a team that is predicted to take the Cup this year. We are horrible and useless. Wow, let's get a new coach. Bradley sucks. Blah, blah, blah. Beowulf, Congrats on going to the 40 EPL games. You must be smart. I've been to over 40 MLS games, so I know what to expect from our league and know that it's not exactly the EPL. You must not understand that concept. EPL--High paid players vs. lesser high paid players. American Example: NY Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers Obviously, with SEM (you probably don't know too much about that, since you spend most of your time in England watching EPL games) teams are always going to be close and games are always going to be close. So go back home and slay another dragon, Beo. We don't suck. We lost a close game without our playmaker with us yet. Give it time. We have a total of EIGHT returning players. Obviously, you need time for the team to gel.
I'm Metro through and through... still doesn't mean I am going to sit through another season of garbage. This may have been the first game of the season to go into the record books but we've been playing for over two months now , with the coach sending home a good crop of talent already. Saturday is only one game but after playing so many already you would of thought we could look somewhat like a unit. The defense was great last night but a team who has played three matches in a weeks time should of been blown off the pitch by us. Fact is we played like shi- and it wasn't pretty. I sure hope Sat. was just jitters because there is simply no other exscuse. How anyone can be pleased with what they say on Sat. night is beyond me. Enjoy the defense, because it was above par , but otherwise we need to work a whole lot harder.
WHAT THE HECK YOUR TALKING ABOUT, I WAS GOING TO POST THAT I AGREE WITH YOUR ASSESMENTS EXCEPT ON MM, BUT YOUR AN A$$HOLE AFTERWARDS,
MY CONDOLENCES ! If any of you thought, is there something out there to make soccerfan's posts even more enjoyable, he's done it. HE IS TYPING IN CAPS. JOY!!! THANK YOU SOCCERFAN. YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A FAN OF SOCCER AND KNOW A LOT ABOUT THIS GAME. I LIKE TYPING IN CAPS TOO. IT NOT ONLY LOOKS LIKE I'M YELLING BUT ALSO MAKES MY POSTS SEEM MORE IMPORTANT.
If you've never met an idiot scouser, I don't think you're quite the EPL fan you make yourself out to be. No offense there, JRedknapp11, but even you have to admit it puts a dent in his argument.
You are exactly right on, but guess what, some metro fans can't take the truth, let alone admit to it. We are all Metro fans here, we all want to see the team become a champion and play attractive soccer. It hurts when I have to say anything bad about them, they are my team, but that doesn't mean I will lie to myself just to make me feel better.
YOU'RE SO RIGHT, NOT PLAYING ATTRACTIVE SOCCER IS A BIG PROBLEM. WHAT THE HELL IS BOB THINKING? I SUGGESTED IT YESTERDAY, HE SHOULD CHECK OUT VIDEOS OF BRAZIL, THEIR SAMBA STYLE IS AMAZING!
