Late comeback from Spain. 83' and 96' minute goals make it 2-2, after Colombia was shockingly ahead 2-0!

Insane amount of time wasting by Colombia, but didn't help.

I'm basing the comparison also on the men's Olympics featuring only 16 teams so that should mean the quality is higher when compared to 24-team tournaments.

There are different ways to rank/grade, but I am judging by prestige and to what extent the best players are involved. For the men, it's not just U23 it's like C and D u23 squads, so quality is off-the-charts low. The US team, for instance, would probably lose to the US u20 team.

And prestige is low too. Many diehard footie fans don't even in the slightest.

Spain advance in PKs. But they gotta learn to cross/lob the ball into the box more often. The pass-pass-pass and pass again just wasn't working.

Yes, but Colombia defended fantastically, it is just that they had so little at the other end made it one-way traffic for most of the game.

I maintain USA and Canada are still the favourites based on performances so far.

Just talking about quality here, not prestige or the presence of A-listers.

Huge upset as Brazil knock out France sans Marta! Great goalkeeping on Brazil's side. Makes all the difference in the women's game.

There are lots of things that go into the quality of a tournament other than the raw number of teams.

I expect a final between Brazil and USA.

The dilemma for Brazil is that Marta's replacement (Portilho) played quite well and scored the only goal against France. Looked better than Marta has this tournament, frankly.

I agree that Spain look more beatable than at last year's WC, but I still say Spain x US final. Spain is quite a bit better than France and that scare that Colombia gave them will help ensure they are not overconfident.

France 1-1 Egypt now going into ET.

France denied a blatant penalty in stoppage time for the clearest handball offence you will ever see by the Honduran referee despite a VAR review.

You left out the part where the ref and VAR agreed it was a handball. The ref ruled there was a push by the France defender right before. A bit of a cop out, imo, but he did say it was a handball.

Pretty one-sided match though. Egypt have lost the plot.

Yes, but that clash between Bade and the Egyption player - who was sent off in ET incidentally - wasn't a foul.

Olise has grown into this tournament and impressed me more and more, indicating why so many big clubs wanted to buy him this summer.

France's win over Egypt came exactly 42 years after they beat the same opponent in the quarterfinals at the 1984 Olympics when they went on to win the gold medal!

Spain is good though so I am not so sure France will win this time around.

Sorry, 1984 was only 38 years ago (thankfully!).

Why don't we split the difference and say it was 40 years ago?

Spain has to do it all over again. Losing by 2 goals again.

Spain are just a mess now! Giving away chance after chance. Could easily by 5 for Brazil.
