Psg, Chelsea and Tottenham interested in Balogun. Interested in seeing where he lands

bumping after a great tournament. At 25, he could really breakout this year. Monaco hasn't really worked out the way most of us wanted but he has more to give.

I think it's worked out pretty well for him at Monaco. The club finished 2nd and 3rd in his first two seasons, although last year's 7th-place finish was a disappointment. Individually, though, he's been very productive—more than 90 matches across all competitions, with 31G and 14A. That's a strong strong return.

I am with you. There's another level to his game, and if he continues on this trajectory, a bigger move feels more like a matter of when than if.

What really stood out to me during the WC wasn't just his play on the field—where he was brilliant—but also the way he carried himself off it. His conversation with Rudi Garcia after the Belgium match, his comments to the media, and his message to USMNT supporters all spoke volumes about his character. He's a class act, and smart clubs take notice of those things too

Agree that he may be ready to step up a level. He should give it a go and see what he can do.

Eh, this past season is doing a lot of heavy lifting with those stats. 43 matches played with 19g/4a and a 7th placed finish. The two years prior: 16 played 4g/0a and 32 played 8g/5a.

Edit. Also, 100% agree with the way he carried himself and responded to that level of adversity. What a great head on his shoulders, couldn't be more proud to have him represent us.

Possible sign of a player putting it all together and leveling up . . . He should take the chance.

Of those 3 teams, only Spurs would offer regular playing time. Don't see him playing much for PSG and who TF knows what Chelsea are going to do.

Unless I missed something, CP still has Mateta? I could see them playing together. Idk if that's the intention.

They also just spent a good amount of money on Strand-Larssen from Wolves in January.

I've been a pretty steady - and I hope rational - Balo supporter over the years, and have watched a decent amount of his Monaco play, and while I think he was underrated by many going into the WC, I'm afraid the WC hypemachine now has tilted to the other side - although I also think he's good enough that with better supporting cast he can be a steadier goal scorer, but he's also got some limitations to his game, especially his touch in tight space and speed of release on shots in close, that it would be great for him if he could improve.

As long as it's not Chelsea. Other loan army clubs should get a firm "no" - he's a proven international who's had more than one good season in Ligue 1 - but Chelsea have to be rejected out of hand.

If Spurs are genuinely interested, it's a risk - de Zerbi's not exactly guaranteed to stick around and a lot of pressure from an embittered fanbase - but if he's to have a CL-level future, he has to be able to handle that kind of pressure. Mateta's future is undecided IIRC but he is likely to leave, but I'm not sure if Palace will offer enough for Monaco's liking

FWIW, between yesterday (Di Marzio) and today (Tuttosport), both have reported Juventus interested in Balogun.

The #9 position is open now that Vlahovic left on a free while David and Openda couldn't handle the spot for varying reasons. PSG seems hell bent on 45+ for Kolo Muani so Juve is reportedly looking elsewhere. Balo is likely to be valued around 40m but he is 4 years younger than RKM so he could be a better investment.

After the dead rubber final league phase match against AS Monaco, Spalletti had nothing but praise for Balogun when he was frustrated with the performance of his 9s (Openda and David) on the day and frankly the whole year.

I'm not sure which of the Italian journalists have the inside scoop with Carnivale or Massara in the past, so take this with a grain of salt. Tuttosport is based in Turin but is not particularly reliable.

I would think Balogun would cost 50..
He cost Monaco 40.. I would think they would like to make some profit..

He did well enough at the WC and has been a reliably effective producer in Ligue Un and the CL - 45 goals and 14 assists in 109 games and 5 goals and 1 assist in 13 - for 4 seasons now, so he's going to be one of their more saleable assets. The real question is whether the bidders are attractive to him

If he stays, he'll be a lock starter this season and without UEFA football, he should score at an even higher pace, potentially powering them back to the CL and be well-rested come next simmer on top:p. There may be better options then.

It's a good situation to be in :thumbsup:

Trasnfermarkt has his sale listed as 30m. I'm sure Monaco would love 50m for him but I can't imagine anyone would pay that much, but this market is crazy. Gordon for 80m and Tottenham spending stupid money. Maybe he does go for that much, but it would be an overpay.

TBF Gordon looked really sharp this WC. I don't understand footie money, but if you were going to splash on a kid, he looked like a reasonable gamble to take.

Not sure I want him going to Juve. They’ve been a striker graveyard post Ronaldo

No better way to turn that striker graveyard into the land of the living than by bringing in Balo. I think he's a way better fit at the #9 than Jonathan David, who they are looking to offload. He's a lot more dynamic in his movement than David.

I highly doubt he goes to Juve. They have no money to pay the transfer fee. They've been trying to get Kolo Muani for 2 years but don't want to pay the transfer fee. I think if he moves, it will be a premier league team

Where are you getting overrated from? I'm not seeing crazy rumors - the clubs linked seem about right. I hope he doesn't consider Chelsea - that would be career playing suicide while being a financial boon, potentially.

Why is Chelsea career suicide? You don't believe in him?

That said, I don't want him to go to Chelsea because they're a mess. Maybe with Alonso they'll be better though. And if Alonso wants him...

That's fair about Alonso - I just think Chelsea is the kind of place where he might not play much if at all.

I mean, they are all silly season but I've seen pundits and press mentioning PSG, Dortmund, Juve, Fulham, Brentford, Spurs, Athletico, NUFC, Sunderland, Everton, Leeds and more.

There's certainly waaaaay more smoke around him than there was before the WC. Which is not completely surprising. He raised his profile nicely, but it feels like there might be a more hype than he deserves at this point - tho I'd be thrilled if he got a shot at a big club with good support. The EPL could be challenging if it's a team that needs immediate production and isn't set up to support/compliment Balo's attacking style.

But other than PSG - those all seem fairly reasonable to me, at least in terms of his potential level and/or need of the club.
