It looked like a defender got his knee under Balogun's left upper-arm as he went up for a headed clearance. Balogun was planted on the ground, so it might have popped the shoulder out from the upwards momentum. He was down in very obvious pain for several minutes before coming off slowly with his arm immobibilzed, so it does not look good. Usually that level of pain indicates a dislocation.
Scores in three straight... including this sic game winner.... and then...? Injury. At this point I just can't wrap my head around it. YAs just can't seem to stay healthy.
Mercato: "If Monaco has, for the moment, not communicated about the injury of its player, Balogun's cries of pain during his exit did not inspire optimism." The only slight ray of optimism is there's a nice international break for him to rest it, but then Monaco have a slew of games and it would be great for him and them if he were able to play and contribute.
I sure hope the injury is not too bad. He's hit such a nice stride. Last 3 goals have been really confident.
Minimum recovery time for an athlete is 3 months. Can go to 4. If it's this baby, it's the end of his season. From Johns Hopkins med school web site: It takes the repaired rotator cuff tendons about six weeks to heal initially to the bone, three months to form a relatively strong attachment to the bone, and about six to nine months before the tendon is completely healed to the bone. Most patients who have had rotator cuff surgery will tell you that it takes about nine months before the shoulder feels completely normal. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/failed-rotator-cuff-repairs#:~:text=It takes the repaired rotator, completely healed to the bone.
I haven't but I've seen Martin Riggs face and eyes enough times when he dislocates or pops it back in to know how painful it is.
You can (sometimes) play soccer with a torn rotator cuff, however. Just can't shampoo the top of your head. Might not be ideal, but is not *always* necessary to repair asap. But, at the times, it can be bad enough you can't play. case by case.
A torn rotator cuff is a quantitative thing. How big is the tear and where is it? Sometimes PT and a week or two if minor. Or surgery, then a lot more.
Haven't seen an update on his injury, but with PSG's weekend stumble Monaco starts the week at the top of the league. Balo has 3 goals in 400 minutes and has been on a nice streak. Keeping fingers crosses that the injury is not too bad and he can keep contributing to this young team's success.
How quickly you return from a shoulder injury mostly comes down to how much ranch dressing you put on your pizza.
NYTimes says dislocation: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5822460/2024/10/06/folarin-balogun-injury-usmnt-update/

Monaco play today, but not Balo. Shoulder dislocation. From some French press on the web: His absence, estimated at at least two months according to information from AFP, considerably reduces the offensive power of AS Monaco, which finds itself in a delicate situation.
Monaco hold on for a 1-1 tie with Lille, despite a Teze RC in the 61st. They hold on to 1st - at least till PSG plays. Really just a crappy time for Balo to go down. Monaco are playing well but really need someone putting the ball in the net now and again.
