I wonder if Pepi is smiling somewhere.

We have seen this from Flo, he can go through dry spells like he did in the end of last season.

With our luck, Balogun will never score again.

Those were two awful PKs. Announcer gave credit to the GK but cmon... they were just downright poor attempts. Brutal.

@LouisianaViking07/09 please research for us whether any Yank has ever missed two PKs in a single game before ever. Would appreciate results before COB today. Tyia.

I was just thinking that if this thread goes quiet for a bit, we could all trot out our pet theories on who should take a PK.

Not the player just fouled, imo, even if he's fine, even if he grabs the ball and threateningly screams, "I earned it, I take it!"

Not a second time after an initial miss, imo, because right now isn't the time to restore confidence, and we know (from the way he's smirking and you're wincing) that the GK is inside your head. Let someone else take it.

But how about taking a second PK after you make the first? Let's still choose someone else, lest the GK outguess you this time - keeps it more random, assuming we have another qualified taker.

If Landon Donovan, Matthew Le Tissier, Alan Shearer, or Del Piero is on the field I give it to them. Otherwise, I turn my back and let the chips fall where they may. Sending someone else up to hold the ball (not the taker) is an ideal strategy though.

Only thing he can do is shake it off and score in the next game. That resolves the shame.

To make matters worse Monaco lose to a goal in stoppage time. Should have been as 2-1 win.

Hey…. It’s not like Monaco has crazy supporters to be pissed at Balogun. Monaco barely has any. They just have tourists. Barely had 7K there today. It’s not like Lyon, Marseille, or St Etienne supporters who’d burn your house down after two missed PK’s. He won’t have to go in hiding for the next month. Sucks Balo missed two PK’s. Really sucks but he’ll learn from this. Nowhere to go but up.

I’m trying to think if I’ve ever seen anybody miss two PKs before. Seemed like he was pretty good at PKs last year. Two bad PKs to the exact same spot though.

I was working and had one eye on the game, but he didn’t look overly influential otherwise. Long season…

It's roughly similar to the odds of a basketball player missing both free throws. But it's pretty uncommon for a single player to even take two penalties in one game, so taking two and missing both is seems a lot more freakish.

Balogun will be fine; Monaco probably should let somebody else take PK's for a while, though.

Balogun missed 2 penalties in one game, Martin Palermo missed 3. Just saying.
