I am planning on going to Lisbon in February to catch the derby match against Benfica as well as the first leg of the Round-of-16 Champions League match against Bayern Munich. For those of you in the Toronto area, which carrier do you use to fly and what prices should I expect to see? Any tips/information that I could use or need for being in Lisbon? Any information would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance.

well if the derby is on a fri or sat, SATA will not get you there in time. When i went I flew on a thursday with Continental from here to Jersey then connected to Lisbon. We arived on a friday morning. Flying contenental provided the best flexibility for me

yup no doubt. When I went around this time 2 yrs ago, there was bad weather on the east coast and the connection was already delayed to the following day....no good. So the agent booked us on an-already-overbooked KLM flight to amsterdam then we connected to Lisbon and got there with a few hours to spare before the BIG game! MINT!

The weather during winter inot easy to predict so good luck!

Look out for the pink men-eater kangaroos.

And by that I mean the shemale whookers. THEY WILL FLIRT WITH YOU!

Know nothing about it but Lisbon does look like Thailand sometimes.

You need to visit the Docas by the bridge, and take the drive along the coast to Cascais it's really beautiful. Sintra is also a must see, and close by. If you like malls go to Colombo (huge), it's just down the road from Alvalade, but as your going don't look towards your left, you'll see something really horrific. :D

I has really, REALLY wanted to go to Lisbon next weekend but unfortunately it's not going to happen. It was just too expensive for me right now for flight, accomodations and all the other expenses, so my dream trip will have to wait for another year :(

The clubs in Lisboa are pure Euro they listen to stuff like Basshunter, ATB, and Tiesto, they have great Rock places aswell. If you are not rocking Gucci, Prada, Hugo Boss, FCUK have fun trying to pick up ladies. The typical Portuguese women is very shallow. But the women are ridulously hot.

and don't just expect Portuguese womenI can't teall you how many Swedish, Ukrainan, Russian, Bosnian, and German girls there

ridulously beautiful. alot of Prostitutes beware some have penises:eek:

What the hell is with the shemales in Portugal. I thought it was only a brasilian thing.

And Euro trash music really? When I was in the south they were playing some dance/teco, but they were also playing some tuga, baile funk mixes with techno..

To be honest, I'm thankful that I don't live in Lisbon.
For me it's not a cool metropolis.

As portuguese women being shallow I kinda get your point. That's why I often resort to foreigners.
I really can't stand up their over the top obnoxious attitude. And to make things worse, a great majority of the northern girls are prude.
So Porto is a mix of paradise and hell.

I'm not going to comment on disco clubs because they all look alike to me. And not a fan of them either.

    Re: Flying to Lisbon

Ha! Let me tell you something, you have no idea what shallow means. Come to North America. Canada is generally even viewed as more "easy going" then America, but come here, and then go to Portugal.

I found the Portuguese women and female population in that country to be very open and welcoming compared to over across the Atlantic. Hell I made like 4 girlfriends in 1 month in Algarve. Tallking to women in Lisboa, they would stop and chat. Came back to Canada, reminded me that I need money to court these tricks, Audi, a future...etc....

Here...this bitches can literally be on their way to the club, all dressed up. Park right behind your car(that you basically helped them get cause they didn't even know it was a free parking spot), get out the cars at the relatively same time, with an even ratio of boys to girls...you say hi...and they MAY look at you, or they may not say one thing and just keep moving.

Lisboa is very different to Portugal. Some places in Lisboa are into they hard hardcore death metal stuff like blood, gore, and guts kind of shit. Very whacky people there. And the women are very shallow, have a two minute conversation with them and you'll see for yourself

    Re: Flying to Lisbon

    Well, not necessarily.
Porto is the capital of gothic community.

    I'm into metal btw :D

I just say it's a weird metropolis compared to others I visited in Europe due to several reasons.
Urban planning is chaotic, relatively bad public transportation system, buildings almost collapsing and a high level of insecurity.

As for its people, and responding to Joel, the southern girls are sexually more open minded than the northern ones. I know it myself ;):p

But I guess no one is ever too sure about other countries. It takes more than a quick visit (plus the "outsider charm" variable).
If I had to judge american girls I would say they are quite straightforward.
Here's an e.g. of Porto ladies:
It took 5 minutes for a hot american girl to cross the room and approach me.
It took 5 years to know that a local girl liked me.

Personality wise, Joel stated the exact thing that Porto women also have. The obnoxious and show off attitude.

But being shallow is a different subject. A girl can be shallow and yet screw everyday so I don't think you guys are using the word properly.
If it's about stimulation other than our genitalia, then I get both of you. You seem looking for fun rather than a serious commitment though.

So I'm going to agree with Joel, since I believe that portuguese women overall are mentally richer than the american ones.

Personally, I'm more into northern european ones. So far they're the only ones that managed to have deep, intelligent convos with me.
And Joel, I do have to resort to foreigners cus it's easier for me to meet foreing exchange students or others living in Porto than going to the south.

    Re: Flying to Lisbon

Every city has those pockets. And I agree with Panther, I think more people in Porto will enjoy that genre of music opposded to Lisboa. Yet again, I am generalizing, but when I stay in Olaias(Where we have our apartment), people are very open, and we often here Samba, Tuga, and types of Portuguese African music coming through the windows in the morning...

No offense to you Panther, but I never really liked Porto. My favorite cities in Portugal are Lisboa, Villamoura/Quartiera, Portimao and Braga.

    Re: Flying to Lisbon

Damn, my previous post was a kinda confusing...

    I'm ok with that.
My favorite ones are Sintra, Alentejo region and my city :D

Albufeira is overrated btw. It looks like the only non-portuguese place but at the same time so cheap and skanky.
It was my first time getting hitted by a woman while lifting my cash in the ATM. And that english woman wasn't even drunk! (ok, I understand the correlation between money and a female sudden appearance but I can assure you that i was hitted all night long).
The most disturbing case was waking up with a irish soaked girl on my bed. I'm not lying. But then again, it's a long story and it was a mix of paradise and hell so nothing I should be proud of.

There's a fair balance of hotties and chubbies, of pretty and ugly. But above all, it's not real fun unless hitting on chicks is your sole priority.

Monte Gordo is more for the family. Good place to be.
Oh, and I don't recommend any northern/center beaches except the one at Nazaré and Figueira da Foz (a bit windy though).

    Re: Flying to Lisbon

Have you guys ever been to Funchal. Awesome place a pretty big city in Portuguese standards, the women are very cocky I find that hot. Beautiful place if you are a single manalot of tourist lol I met a couple opf drunk Italians there from Turin lol I will never forget hahaha.

Ponta Delgada was nice, more family oriented they had some fairly good looking girlies some were really slutty others really conservative.

Never been to Porto but I will go always wanted to drive over the Bridge and visit the most corrupt stadium in all the land lol just kidding.

But Lisboa had it's fair share of emo, and death metal goths, but the clubs were awesome the best ever. Girls were gorgous, classy, had money lol nice place to be if you were a single guy or girl
