Judge rules out paper trail for touch-screen voting machines

A federal judge ruled Monday that touch-screen voting machines do not need to create a paper trail to comply with constitutional voting rights, throwing out one of the highest profile pre-election challenges to hit Florida courts.
    .......

Touch-screen voting machines have been touted in Florida as an alternative to the paper ballots that produced hanging chads, and a heavy dose of controversy, during the 2000 presidential election. Experts generally agree the machines are more accurate than the traditional punch card, but investigations in California, Maryland and Ohio have revealed software problems with some machines, as well as security gaps
Other critics hold that unless the machines are attached to a printer, the votes they tally cannot be subjected to an accurate recount, which is triggered automatically when a candidate wins by less than one-quarter percent of the vote.

Just my opinion, but if the election is too close, let's say i won't have much confidence in the final results... In Florida, at least.... Fool me twice, shame on....

Mods can we start 2 threads for this kinda stuff?

    1) Dems claim <u name it> cant vote.
    2) Reeps claim <u name it> shouldn't vote.

This will make for a tidier forum...

Let's see... I thought this thread was not arguing whether you can or should vote, or anything related to it....
The point is: can you count the damn votes once they are cast?....If you read the article, according to Florida law itself, if it is too close, a recount needs be made...We, guess what: we'll have to rely on machines telling us it tabulated the votes correctly (with all the vulnerabilities software can have, plus bugs already seen in trials), not whether actual individual votes were counted to confirm this...Sure, 2000 was a disaster when it came to counting votes, but you would think 4 years later, this kind of crap should not happen any longer...But, hey no biggie, it's just a matter of not being able to know for sure whether the votes were counted correctly....No big deal

I suspect both sides are gonna be screaming during this election. Just a suggestion to add 2 threads to place the chest thumpers in a nice neat little place.
