Gilberto's been around more than the Girl from Ipanema - he's certainly well-traveled.

Revolution acquires Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Flores

Foxborough, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the team has acquired Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Flores off of waivers. The
MetroStars placed Gilberto on waivers on Wednesday, July 8. The midfielder
is signed as a developmental player and will not count against the
    Revolution's 18-man senior roster.

"Gilberto has proven he has the ability to play in this league," said
Revolution head coach Steve Nicol. "It made perfect sense to bring him in
    given what we've seen."

The MetroStars signed Gilberto, 21, on May 31, 2004. He started and saw
action in seven games in 2004, recording one assist. This season, the
defensive midfielder played in three games, logging a total of 39 minutes.
Prior to coming to MLS, he played with five different Brazilian clubs,
including São Paulo FC in 2002.

The New England Revolution (9-1-5, 32 pts.) is in Illinois this weekend for
    a first-place clash with the Chicago Fire (10-6-2, 32 pts.) at 8:30 p.m. ET
tonight, Saturday, July 9 at Soldier Field. Saturday night's match will be
broadcast live on WB56 and can be heard on WEEI 850 AM or heard streaming at revolutionsoccer.net.

Nothing about giving up a draft pick?

    This gets better and better:
~DV Roster so we still have two SI and two senior roster slots open
~He's off the waiver list so we don't give up the 8th round pick in 2006
~He's in Chi-town and elegable to play

Now all we need to do is put out the Fire

Does this mean he's going to be making 17K a year? Any restrictions out there on developmental players playing in the full team?
