Well, looks like Flaco is not going to be loaned/sold outside of MLS, it looks like he is getting traded to a team inside MLS. Goff tweeted that a big trade was about to go down and then tweeted the following after Flaco said goodbye on Twitter: 228951093483290625[/twitter] is not a valid tweet id
F**k.. I can't help but feel we got reamed a bit on this trade. Flaco went to Chicago for allocation money: http://www.soundersfc.com/news/articles/2012/07-july/fernandez-traded-to-fire.aspx Tiffert had better rock some serious ass, or I'm going to be quite put out.
Yeah this Tiffert dude better be worth it. I like Flaco he was only a DP because of his transfer fee so I guess getting rid of him for an actual DP worthy player makes sense (To the Sounders of course). I also always felt Sigi wasn't to fond of him. Anyways Flaco did contribute some good moments for the squad and was starting to pick up. Wish him the best in Chicago!
Well, not 110% healthy. But definitely 100% healthy. Dealing Fernandez for change makes us significantly weaker at LW until Zakuani gets healthy. The trade makes sense for next season, but this season? *sigh* We just turned a strength at LW and weakness at CM to a strength at CM and a weakness at LW.
Seattle was very tight handed. They had to make this move. If they traded flaco sooner we could have gotten something more than allocation money like a player for example.
Exactly. Tiffert may turn out to be a tremendous MLS player, but until he takes the field this looks like a wash or at best a slight improvement to the team.
I wonder if Hanauer had used allocation money to buy down Rosales's contract prior to the start of the season if we could have fit everyone under the cap until the offseason..
Hmm I think it only delays the inevitable of flaco leaving the team from middle of the season to the off-season. With Zak coming back Flaco would be $300k+ paper weight on the bench.
We have approximately 147 options on the wings. Flaco is a good guy, good player, helped the team in a lot of ways. Tiffert needs to be Brad only significantly better in central midfield. Cool he can play wide. Well, we already have guys that can do that. We need a pairing with Ossie that changes "best holding mid in the league" to "best central midfield in the league." Like the Beckerman-Morales pairing, the Juninho-Beckham pairing, Cienfuegos-Victorine pairing, etc. In other words, CM pairings that have won championships.
What makes you think that? Assuming Zak comes back better than ever, after almost a 2 year layoff. I think Flaco while better than most on the team in skill was just less phyisical than Sigi likes. Getting Tiffert, the Sounders get more strength and passing. Then again the Sounders, known for their explosive attack SLOW DOWN. Since Tiffert and Rosales are hardly the speedsters they once were. I still think the Sounder would have been gold with Fernandez on the right and Zak on the left. Rosales and Alonso in the middle. But this is something we never really got to see. I just think Sigi is changing the game of the Sounders, from speedy team to more possesion slower team. Which is what got LA the cup last year. I have NOT been impressed by any sounder player this year, and had always stated that the ONLY DP the Sounders had that had any true value in the market was Fernandez. MLS is asking way to much for Montero, and Rosales won't be sold due to his injury prone career. Fernandez in his two years was linked to Palermo, Dep. Cali. He had a very solid season last year. This year much like his team he slumped. We will see what happens, but at the start this move might doom the Sounders, who will be much more slower down the stretch.
I know I seem so sound like crying over spilled milk, but like I said earlier in the season, having Rosales as a DP was a bad idea. I always thought that Rosales should've gotten somewhere around $300K or somewhere a little below the limit. But of course, there's nothing we can do about it now, and it seems that Adrian can't do anything about it either. It would've been nice if we have this lineup: ---------Montero----EJ---------- Flaco---Tiffert/Alonso---Rosales A.good.LB---Ianni/Parke---Johansson ------------BigG-----------------
I honestly don't care about what the market thinks about our players. All I want is for our team to get better. If Adrian thinks that Tiffert is an upgrade over Flaco, or if our backup LM's are better than our backup CAM's, then that's good enough for me. I think Adrian tried to capitalize on selling Flaco to EU/South America, but he ran out of time. He has to make a decision to juggle our DP's. I bet it went to Flaco's/Dep.Cali's/Palermo's/MLS's agents and each tried to get hard ball and in the end, nobody wins.
Some more info from Josh Mayers on why Flaco was traded rather than loaned: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundersfcblog/2018818219_gm_adrian_hanauer_on_dps_mario.html
It makes sense if you're not LA or NY the league is going to crack down on any thing that can be perceived as circumventing the salary cap. My hope is that Flaco does well for Chicago down the stretch and gets sold to another club and we can get additional allocation dollars as a result.
