Jistlamabudu: We take the self-denial / fasting aspects of each of the world's five major religions and combine them into one religion. This is about self-denial. This is about reliance on your higher power for strength. This is about purification. Judaism - Fast during The ten days of repentance from beginning of Rosh Hashanah to the end of Yom Kipper. Tisha B’Av. Catholicism - Lent is the season of self-denial. Be bold. Deny yourself sweets, the expensive coffee drink or generally something you like but don't need; or to be really bold about it don't eat food, just water, during the day for the entire Lenten period of 46 days. Islam - Fast during the day for the entire 29 to 30 days of Ramadan. Water at your discretion. Buddhism - Main fasting day is on full moon days. Hinduism - The Hindu way to fast is on a particular day of the week. Thursday, Tuesday, and Monday are the most common. This is about self-denial. This is about reliance on your higher power for strength. This is about purification. Try it for a year. It works. You should feel better physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. So for, 2012 for example, the Jistlamabudu fasting schedule would like this: Lent - Wednesday, February 22, 2012 through Saturday, April 7, 2012 Tisha B’Av - July 28 and July 29 Ramadan - Saturday, July 21 - Sunday, August 19 The Ten Days of Repentance - September 16th - September 25th Full Moons: January: January 8 February: February 7 March: March 8 April: April 6 May: May 5 June: June 4 July: July 3 August: August 1 and August 31 September: September 29 October: October 29 November: November 28 December: December 28 Every Monday or Tuesday or Thursday : 52 days 153 total days of fasting.
Can I celebrate the days were I can get presents instead of this? I mean Chirsmas, Kwanzaa, heineken (or what ever the Jewish thing is called), etc.
Absolutely. Jistlamabudu is compatible with other traditions because we Jistlamabuduists don't expect most people to practice Jistlamabuduism perfectly. Only the most orthadox Jistlamabuduists would fast on 153 days within a calendar year. Which reminds me. There's more good news. One word...Overlap. For instance, if there is a budhist full moon on a Hindu Thursday, Jistlamabuduists don't have to make that day up.
First time I've ever repped Stilton for one of his posts on the Religion board. But I wholeheartedly agree with this. In fact, I take it as my sacred religious duty to break any fast with some pulled pork from Smoque. Or perhaps a rack of baby back ribs.
Publish a calendar of the days you'll be fasting. I'll pop down to the Ironbound and eat and drink my way through it for you.
Now see that's what I'm talking about. We can have fun with this and still acheive a measure of spiritual enlightenment. I'm thinking that's where Protestant positive reinforcement fits in with Jistlamabudu. So, anyway, thanks for your respective contributions Ceezmad, StiltonFC, GiuseppiFignori and Dyvel.
So this is like one of those Transformers where you had 5 small ones to make up one big Transformer. Except in this case they manage to combine into a half starved pair of testicles.
This is hard. It may be a little dangerous too. I'm going to have to condition myself to fasting which may take.... a long time.
