At the Lars site: http://www.lariotsquad.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e32f36f07b9ffff;act=ST;f=10;t=87 The roof material between the trusses isn't in yet, of course.
Bump... so more get to see these historic pix!! The other side should be up also within ten days at most.. They did this side in about a week, it seems.
They are saying it will have the nicest amenities and sightlines of any soccer stadium in the Americas. I'm sure it will at least be the newest!
the website is at its bandwidth max and has been disabled by tripod for 2 hours...can someone repost them somewhere else?
Maybe someone at LARS will.. This will be happening for many days if someone doesn't.. I feel guilty for posting the link now! Well, someone would have eventually.
stadiums need to be semi-rooved! it improves the atmosphere. don't believe me just look at wrigley field or old comiskey park.
I remember reading that Lamar on his World Cup trip loved the atmosphere that the roofs brought, so hopefully Columbus will get one soon.
bastard... you keep telling yourself that! now i can't see it, one of the few peeps that wanna see it the most, a galaxy fan!!! dammit
CCS was designed to be expanded from 22,500 to 30,000. In the expanded stadium there is a roof. I can't remember where they had the pictures for the expanded stadium I can only say it looked good. However, expansion won't come until they consistently sell the place out.
Now be nice KoRnNutZ!! Every time there have been Victoria Street images at LARS there has been a link posted here. Just this time they ended up being on a site that only wants 20 people to see them per day.
I don't see the fascination with roofs. I went to see the Cowboys play at Texas Stadium. It was so damn hot, we left in the third qtr. And, that was a night game. There was no air circulation in the place because of the roof.
that's b/c Texas Stadium is basically a dome with a hole poked in the ceiling. Not the same thing as the roof they're putting up over the stands at HDTC. Besides, which would you rather have? a roof blocking some of the breeze but also giving you shade, or an open air stadium lacking atmosphere?
Who needs shade when the sun's down? Other than your 2 Soccer Saturday afternoon games on ESPN, all of the Galaxy's home games will be played during the evening.
Unless you've experience the difference in crowd noise in a stadium with a partial roof and one without, you have no real idea of the difference. It's also nice in that a lot less are scared away from coming to games by a chance of rain.
True, but you need fans who make noise to take advantage of the improved acoustics. I'd love to hear Galaxy fans chant a song or two like the English or Korean fans, but I'll believe it when I hear it. Until proven otherwise, all I expect the roof to do is magnify the occasional "oooh's" and "aah's" you get when a shot is taken on goal.
Well I can guarentee those damn horns will be loader.. Groups like LARS that now sing a lot at Galaxy games will be a lot louder. A lot of atmosphere is lost in the cavernous Rose Bowl when there's only 25K there but that will not be the case at Victoria Street and it will improve quickly this year, game to game. I'm very optimistic about that aspect.
It doesn't help that the Galaxy even has those horrid horns in their artist renderings of the new stadium. I wish the renderings had one of those "No Horns" signs I've seen at some stadiums instead.
