So what's up with the ************y Mc************ first name on the jersey BS? If you're an American and you're NOT making a splash in league play in Brazil then how about you put your EFFIN last name on your back?!!!

Exhibit A - Cobi Jones AKA "Cobi"

    WTF?!!!

I seem to remember Ezra Hendrickson, gangsta name "EZ", doing the same.

Is there a rule in MLS about names on jerseys? And if there's an FC Dallas player who does this then call him out. Unacceptable.

Back in 1997 and 1998, Damian Alvarez had simply "Damian" on the back of his shirt.

Sweeper never specified American players for FCD/Burn and besides, it's not as if the shirt naming standards are too different in Mexico than in the USA.

I thought MLS wasn't going to allow its players to do that any more?

I honestly have no idea why this would upset you so much and I would suggest that you might need to see a professional therapist.

Dude, lay off the homophobic comments. Choose better insults to call him like your last name or something. If you didn't like what I just said then now you know how people feel when you use the "F" word to describe homosexuals. I can't believe i am going to type this, but maybe parrothead is right. go see a therapist.

I must admit I am not a fan of the first name. I guess people just want to be brazilian deep down. Seriouxly though, if a player like Cobi wants to do it, let em. He has earned it. He is a USA soccer Hall of Famer. I think he should get special priviledges.
We have to admit and unfortunately accept that sports traditions are changing. Look at that idiot Chad Cordero or Dontrelle Willis and how they wear their hats. Cmon man, real baseball players shape their hats. It has been done for 100's of years. it just shows you how impressionable some of these idiots are and how they can be swayed to go against tradition and follow some of those idiot rappers.

Parrothead, you have a great mother's day. Please go tell her (whomever that may be for you) that you appreciate her. A teacher that I work with is laying in a hospital bed on life support right now because of a slow leaking brain anueryism that they just discovered the other day. They are goign to have to take her baby (she is full term) from her soon and then they can work on the brain. You just don't know what might happen. This is what bugs me on this forum that people take it so personal and make a big deal out of something that is meaningless in the big picture.

Allright, I agree with you. I often yell/type things that I should spend more time thinking about ahead of time. Good call. And apologies.

See a therapist? That's why I attend FCD home games!! Cheaper, and there's more beer.

The first name on the jersey thing bothers me because, face it, everything Cobi Jones does bothers me. It just seems like special treatment. Is a form passed out at the beginning of the season to players:

name as you would like it to appear on your jersey_________________ .

And if there's a current Dallas player who does it I'd like to know. I'm an equal opportunity hater.

There is no one who plays for FCD with the name 'Fish' on his jersey.

Clever. And yet pedestrian, all at the same time.

Isn't it Nicolas Hernandez of the Rapids who sports Nico on his back?

    Let's see:
    Cobi
    EZ
    Nico

    Who else?

    Not anymore, he doesn't.

Case in point: this year he's required to have "Hernandez" on his back. "Nico" is no longer allowed. (See player next to Vanney below....#20.)

I believe I read that someone got an exemption...was it Fred?....but I don't think it's allowed, as a general rule, in MLS.

    Cobi does.

anyway, I don't care, they should let Nico put what he wants on his jersey.

The most dumb@ss thing I have seen is the RedBulls names. Did any of you see "Kovalenko" with the initial letter "K" and last letter "O" having to go on the back sleeves? Did that not look stupid?

Much better to just go with Dema.

Who cares. We need a little more flash and personalization in this league. If Goodson got a gold tooth and a flashy diamond in his ear and did something cornballish like putting "Badson" on his jersey it would be good for the league.

Cobi is not your every day Jones. Cobi is Cobi. Good enough for me.

I would totally buy a Badson jersey, and I almost never buy name jerseys.

Oh hell yeah! I'd buy that jersey, too.
I just started this rant after watching 'Cobi' enter the field for LA's loss last night. And it's bugged me in past years.
