I was wondering what everyone thought of our new temperary home. I thought it was ok, I HATE the football lines though.
I thought it was an eyesore. Im disapointed Dallas didnt paint over the lines. I thought they were going to do that?
My main beef is that its going to be hard to get people to want to go out to the game with me who I am trying to sell on soccer if I can't buy beer at the stadium. Other than that, and the longer trip, I thought it was fine. The bathroom and food facilities are much superior. The site lines are fine. I feel for the players, who take their lives in their hands if they hustle for a ball that goes out of bounds, and because of the potential for injury. Bottom line -- I am frankly more likely to blow off a game and not show up. But not much more. They have my money already, so no big thing. It is hard for me to believe they are going to be able to sell the thing out. Based on the heat and sun today, I started thinking maybe a winter league might not be so bad...
The field sucks donkey balls. You can barely see the yellow lines nor the penalty area or the six yard box ones. The stadium itself is not so bad. I for one am glad that we play a spring/summer/early fall league here. The reason is that it slows the game down and makes the players think the game out instead of trying to run for 90 minutes like they do in England. It's also going to create a short passing, possession style long term that is going to serve us very, very well in future summer World Cups. But yeah, it was hot and humid today.
event staff was being anal about there job. Several times i saw little kids either standing or sitting near the section that could be standing room and here comes some guy with an attitude who tells them they have to move in a pissed off voice. The second time was after the game where they block off the ga and the ssr. Instread of opening it, they kept it close. when told the game was over they said in a smart ass way that the game may be over, but security isn't.
Hmm. Well, here is my completely uninformed response. 1) I figure the Burn is going to be walking on eggshells. They have a great deal with Southlake, and they have to behave. So I figure that is why they are being paranoid. They are dealing with a landlord who probably has lots of preconceived notions about soccer fans. In other words, if you think of the movie Orange County, Southlake is the Stanford booster, the event staff is the kid going to Stanford, and you're Jack Black. (Gratuitious race-baiting comment): 2) And maybe they were trying to keep the swarthy people away from the less swarthy people...
Start a "Dallas Burn Paint the Lines Foundation" or something then. It's obvious that the Burn group is not going to pony up the money to paint over them.
i could care less about the football lines but it's going to be hell on the players... it was 80 and 70% humidity (from the espn2 crew)... it's april players had burning feet... naperville was bad last year this could be much worse 2 years can't go by fast enough
I agree but at least you don't have to look at them all season. that field blows, 2 years is too damn long if you think about it.
This is the way i see it. Yes 2 yrs is a long time, but hopefully it will be over and done with. Think of SLC as medicine and you are trying to get it over with and sucking it up.
"Eyesore" is the best word for it. It makes the league look bad playing on a high school football field. For the sake of the Burn and all their loyal fans (and the rest of us that have to watch on TV)...speed up the frisco project!
Arsenal, I think it would be an excellent idea if you emailed Andy Swift to let him know about the conduct of the event staff. I'm sure he'd take care of the situation and make sure it doesn't happen again.
wonder what 3rdDegree will have to say about this? imo, that couldn't be much worse. what was the attendance for today's game?
You know what would be nice? Not worrying about the football lines but may be worrying about the SOCCER LINES! I couldn't even see the damn penalty box or the touch lines.
Here are my thoughts on Dragon Stadium (keep in mind this is from TV) 1. Love the seats right behind the goal. Inferno was very loud and cool to see excited. They need to take advantage of that somehow. 2. Soccer lines were very hard to see. 3. Looked like the stadium was pretty full, not a sell out, but it still looked better than the Cotton Bowl. No vast empty seats. 4. I hate football lines. It really is too bad that paint thing didn't work out. 5. The Burn looked good in terms of adjusting to the field. They were able to hold the ball and the slashing style of the outside mids and O'Brien worked well. 6. LA would really suck without Ruiz, they have almost nothing else that threatens. 7. Overall my opinion of the stadium is fairly neutral; some stuff I like, some I don't like. But I can live with it for two years until Burn get their temple. If this were going to bit it forever? now that would be different. But is this move means they break even and don't lose money then it makes my happy.
I was not able to drive up for the game - the field looks like crap on TV. I usually can live with football lines - don't know if its the plastic field and the glare or what but these lines made the field look like a waffle iron. The yellow soccer lines were barely visible. Other than that, the crowd sounded great. LA got a cheap butt goal. When you think about the stadium, just think that "its just 2 years until the promised land."
