A couple of things I liked. The little MLS logo on the bottom of the numbers. Yeh, you can say we are ripping off the EPL but I like it. Columbus Crew in big letters on the front of their uniforms. I think it looks great, but what would look better is move the Addidas logo into the middle of the uniform and do away with the boy band logo. I like the enthusiasm of the eight or so guys standing about midfield first row by the "Bring it on" sign but it should be about 80 guys or why not 800. LA's uniforms kick ass. The "New Soccer Nation" commercial, not bad. The attendance is a hell of alot better than the last meeting between LA and Columbus. They didn't show Everclear sing that much, so it didn't turn into some halftime circus. Whats up with the mittens Ruiz is wearing? I can understand wearing a pair of small gloves but mittens?
New Puma ball, sweet. Somebody made a sign that says "Play soccer, not war." Not sweet. Dude, in case you have missed the news we are in Bagdad. Alittle late for signs against the war. What do you expect to happen, the troops pull out and Sadam goes back to killing his own people because you made a sign? Not going to happen. Your sign should say, "Play soccer in a free Iraq," just like they did the other day with some of the British troops.
I was really excited when he got his first cap last week. After this game, that feeling sure hasn't left. This kid could have a huge year. 21 years old and he's made it from the A-League to the national team.
Scrappy game. Don't think we've won any new converts after watching this game. I did like the radio commentary on 1540 am here in Los Angeles. Last but not least the coach's interviews during the game have to go.
LOL BTW do the Crew have cheerleaders? I noticed some pom pom girls down in the corner. If so any pics?
i thought wynalda was a big improvement over paysee, in actual soccer coverage at least. he makes the coaches interviews work a little better.
A little off topic, but you're saying that since we're already in Iraq, we should just forget our beliefs. Expand your horizon a little. It's never too late to make a difference or to express what you believe in. Anyway, I thought the game was very hard fought, just wish the Crew would have converted better on their oppurtunities. Love the new MLS ball, still hate Ruiz.
Well I am definitely happy because my MLSFantasy League bank is going way up from this game (I have Buddle and Garcia on my team... No Ruiz... too poor to afford Ruiz...). Other than that, a decent game. Looked hellishly cold out there (nothing compared to Euro games, but hey, they're used to it!). Scrappy a lot of the time, but it IS an opening game. Hong looked like a glove with how he fit in. Thought HAY-duk did a good job. Was disappointed that the two obvious chances in overtime were squandered. In terms of skill I give the game a -C. Good opening game that should have an even better rematch once these teams have the momentum going.
A couple of things. 1. Columbus can't take a corner kick to save their lives. 2. L.A.'s defense was looking awfully lackadaisical, and if that keeps up, this whole favorites-to-repeat thing is going to crash and burn HARD. 3. Sorry, but Buddle should not have been MOTM. No question, it goes to Hartman. He flat-out made a bigger difference in the final result. Later, COZ
Over 22,000 with such a cold weather was not bad at all. Next week, the temparatures will be much better.
Well, by that criteria, you can say that Mais played a pretty big role in the outcome. It's not 1-1 if he doesn't forget the rule that every U-9 has memorized. But you're right. Hartmann kept it interesting.
Wynalda What the hell crawled up Wynalda's azz and made him insist that Ruiz' goal was all luck. He was lucky that the ball came to him, but it was a beauty finish. Chinaglia should have been there to biche slap him for that one.
I thought the goal was a little more than lucky; it was a really fortunate "cross" that came his way, but he put a nice head on the ball to finish it off. Lots of players on that field wouldn't have finished that chance off. Anyway, this Galaxy performance was miles away from how we played against Motagua. The defense looked terrible today, and I think we were lucky to come away with a point. I'll put that down to the Crew's terrible finishing. But Martino showed good flashes, Buddle was causing problems, and Hejduk gives a nice option out wide. I think Crew fans have a lot to be excited about.
Where was McBride? Do you think that fatigue has set in? I personally feel that because he isn't much of a creator, he needs a playmaker to set him up because he is a finisher. I don't know if it was a lack of support from his teammates or if he was really struggling. I got to see parts of the game but I taped it because I was babysitting two toddlers during the time the game was on. Thoughts?
We looked really slow on the wings with Victorine and Albright, hopefully EZ will be feeling better next week. Also, we had tons of passes intercepted because not enough pace was put on the pass and our crossing wasn't too special either.
columbus looked good in person. the weather was freezing cold <much more so than 39> thanks to that damn 20 mph wind... if columbus could finish we would have killed them. hartman kept them in the game, no doubt. if anyone on columbus could cross from the wing we would be in much better shape.
