So, play-in games for 16 seeds I get. What I don't get is, why do two of the First Four winners get 11-seeds? If these are the 65th and 66th (or 67th and 68th) teams invited to the dance, why are they coming in higher than the 63rd and 64th?
This is the best explanation I've seen: http://caneswatch.blog.palmbeachpos...ent-why-are-there-play-in-games-for-11-seeds/ Basically, they were expanding to give small conference champs who didn't get autobids a chance, but figured the bigger schools who missed out (ACC #8, BigEast #7, etc) would complain and want spots too, so they split the play-ins. PS - Izzo & team busted my bracket this year.
