    philippine soccer

Anybody know anything about the current state of the philippines national team. Also why does the national confederation not recruit americans or others with philippine roots to play for the national team. I'm just finishing up in college on a d1 scholarship and was wondering what the prospects are to get dual citizenship and try to play for them are?

I don't think you need dual citizenship at all just if one of your parents are from that country. Well that's how it works for EU. I'mm surprised that Philippines aren't better since they have a pretty big country, but I heard everyone just plays basketball there. Their basketball team is pretty good at the continental level.

they don't have a professional structure and adminisration is pretty poor. not to mention lack of money too.

that's why you only get amateur players.

Ignore this guy.... I know what he is leading into. You have attacked enough Asians on this board. Go to hell....

Meanwhile, the Filipino NT does recruit American players to play for them. Daniel Sledd was one of them. I do not think he was a d1 propspect. He plyed d3 NCAA soccer.

Maybe I should keep things simple for those who have trouble grasping the irony of Excape Goat preaching about not attacking other Asian posters:

Pot (Self proclaimed 'nicest guy on Big Soccer') calls the kettle black.

I'm sure the interest for soccer is decent. But kids love hoop over there. Basketball courts are everywhere in my Mom's hometown and my Dad's. Yet, I haven't been back there in 8 years, so it is still possible that things have changed.

    P-Noy to da bone, egot.

I have heard that Nick Rimando of DC United is half Filipino, half Mexican. However he is also captied to the US team after playing for US youth teams in the past.

The leading scorer in the books for Barcelona of the Primera Liga in Spain is of Filipino ancestry back during the first half of the 20th century and even played a few games for the Philippine team.

The Philippines Football Federation was established earlier than any other footie federation in Asia. Football was quite popular in the Philippines when Spain was still the colonial power administering it and resulted in the development of some players who eventually made it to the Spanish Premier League. However bec. of the popularity of basketball in the Philippines thanks to American promotional efforts and the lack of a professional league there, soccer has stagnated since then.

Oh, I wasn't leading into anything. If Filipinos like to play basketball and have a good team fine. if Indians like to play cricket and have a good team fine.

If 1.2 billion Chinese love soccer and the only sports they are good at are gay sports and their women get 4/5th's of all their medals (in sports like weightlifting) and their swimmers use drugs and their children are forced into sports labor camps and still their male athletes win more ice dancing and ping pong cups than their female ones.......then we've got a problem

Yeah, everybody in the PI plays basketball. I read somewhere, though, that a new soccer complex had been built north of Manila. On the other hand, I was watching Asia Football on FSW a couple of months ago and the PI got spanked 12 nil by someone like Malaysia. They got work to do.

Everyone calm down. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, stop the flame war (or take it to PM) and stick to the discussion about football in Phillipine.

In skipshady, we finally have a moderator whom people respected(it is no liked Baza, topcow did a bad job), but we have lived long enough under Korean_Football. And now very good to see Korean_Football is hiding. :) If he no longer moderates, he should at least do us a favor..... he knows how many PMs he got from people asking him to resign.

I'm surprised to see this thread receiving many replies...

the Philippine National Team is recruiting players with Filipino roots to play for the national team!!!

in order to be eligible to play for the Philippine National Team, you must hold a Philippine passport!!!
