Polls haven't been meaningful in the last couple of elections. All they're good for is trying to manipulate public opinion.

And before that, there were primaries for both major parties.

Yet none of the major party candidates bothered to participate in any debates.

If debates are (snicker) "so important," why isn't it Nimrata or Meatball Ron on the one side, vs some guy named Dean Phillips on the other?

Why didn't it turn the tide for Hillary, when she beat Trump in debates in 2016? Or Romney beating Obama in at least one debate in 2012?

Why didn't W being shown to be a mouthbreathing moron in 2000 or 2004 make the difference?

(We can keep going, if you like.)

    Debates don't matter.

Debates don’t NECESSARILY matter, true. But sometimes they matter a lot.

Though I think Trump could have as bad a performance as Biden did last time and it wouldn’t matter much. Anybody who sees what he already is day in and day out and doesn’t care isn’t going to change their mind now.

I mean, I don't know of any voter who made their mind up, based on a debate.

As the idiotic American voter's attention span has gotten shorter, and shorter over time, debates have continued to descend into irrelevance.

That they continue is more down to tradition, and to provide the media programming to sell.

I don't think I'm gonna watch the debate.

If it goes well, my watching or not watching won't matter.

If it goes badly, at least it won't be so excruciating.

@Phillyspur said the same, I think. Watching Trump is just too much for me.

My mum and sister were contemplating putting a towel or other covering over half the TV screen so they wouldn't have to look at his anal mouth, even if they would still hear all the diarrhea that pours out of it.

Of course, they'll probably zoom in at times, so that wouldn't always work.

It’s can’t miss TV for me and my wife. I hope she clobbers him in the first round. I can’t remember being more curious and anxious for a presidential debate.

    Go Kamala!

Will live the debate vicariously through you guys....Watching the convicted felon is not good for my health. I have developed an unhealthy level of contempt and revulsion for this sob.

This is me. There's been a bunch of commentary that the format is not beneficial to Harris, how as a prosecutor she is great at questioning her opponents. But with the mics muted, and the format, she won't get that with Trump. Still, I bet her team will have have her prepped, and she's have her viral lines ready.

I never took polls too seriously but after 2022, especially with GOP leaning polls flooding everything, I stopped.

Anyway, I've got Criterion's 24/7 feature going, and this job research as well.

Watching on BBC America via Sling freestream, given I don't have cable or currently pay for streaming services (other than MLS).

This is like that Happy Days episode where Fonzie tried to say “wrong” but couldn’t do it.

You mean the polls that correctly predicted 2 popular vote wins for Hillary and Biden?

    Kamala's voice sounds nervous.

I don't like how she started answering "are you better than 4 years ago". Just start by saying what was actually happening 4 years ago. Remind people of how inept he was.

I really hate when politicians don’t answer the question asked. Are you better off? There was plenty of time to talk about your plan. Answer the question,..,then you can hammer Trump when he doesn’t

the answer was simple….yes we are.
