That's kind of what I was getting at with that post. These people waving the sexism flag because a comment was made about a woman's appearance have their own standards for attractiveness, just as any other human does. But they'd try to have you believe they choose their partners blindfolded.

I think most people are attracted to certain features, and I also believe that most of us stray from the "norm" in some individual way or another where appreciation of physical features is concerned.

There are plenty of individuals I think are aesthetically ugly, but unless it's also on the outside, no, I'd never say so out loud. Maybe you're saying there isn't anyone you'd think of as ugly. I would disagree with you there as well. Being unattractive isn't a character flaw, but it's a relationship dealbreaker.

I just never saw the reason for the hysteria about complementing someone's appearance. I mean, no, of course I'd never say anything complimentary in person to any female I didn't know in this environment, but a third person account of a famous person's looks on a message board ought not raise anyone's brows. Women do this as well, and well they should.

    Beauty is only skin deep.

Ugly, like Trump, goes straight to the bone

I'm a bit late to this, but...

To me, there is a difference to saying that somebody - a female politician particularly - is attractive, particularly when it is in a thread 25+ pages deep with that particular poster saying many other things not related to her gender or physical appearance. To me, it is along the same lines of several of us saying that Michell Obama is also attractive, in addition to all the other things she is amazing at.

The difference is when somebody says, without any other commentary by that poster, that Beyonce and Taylor Swift should kiss on stage.

Nobody in that said post, nor afterward (nor beforehand, neither that I am aware of) said anything sexualizing Harris. And that post came after that poster said many other positive things about Harris. Along with many posters. Now, if the theme continues on about how attractive Harris is, that is a different story, but a one-off comment on admiring her attractiveness is, to me, not sexualizing.

(Yes, I'm aware her age was mentioned, and that does muddy the waters a bit. But more about ageism rather than sexualization.)

After Emhoff’s speech at the DNC convention the PSA hosts were joking about how he comes across as someone who knows he married up. It was said lightheartedly, but also broadly. Up as in she may well be president. But up, too, as regards their comparative physical attractiveness. By the way, they also commented on how obviously these two people love one another.

No, you don't understand, MTG is a Republican, so it is okay to make crude comments about her. [/ s]

All that I am pointing out is that we occasionally have a female poster object to the sexism and misogyny that flares up from time to time in these threads. I'm not saying the current discussion reaches those levels, even if it is a stepping stone to it and can quite quickly go there.

Personally, I think it would be nice to have an environment where females are more welcomed here and don't have to endure varying levels of male judgment about female bodies and appearances. I recognize most of you are straight males and do not know what it is like to be on the outside or receiving end of such repetitive discussions.

And truth be told, I also did it as a response to comments in another thread where one white heterosexual male poster was basically, if not explicitly, calling some black posters (and myself) racist. That white male poster is primarily concerned with policing the comments of minorities against the majority. I basically said "******** it", we've had female posters complain about occasional misogyny and sexism in these threads and so I'm going to do some policing as well; but in my case I'm doing it for a group that I don't belong to, which is generally not strongly represented here and which does not have equivalent social "status or power" to heterosexual males. (I again refer to how the moderators cut Kamala off yesterday when she tried to follow-up but allowed the orange idiot to do it every single time he wanted to). There is a difference in how males and females are treated in society and in these threads, and I don't think that is fair.

I apologize to @bigredfutbol in particular, given I really wasn't intending to target him with my display of resistance to heterosexual males doing what heterosexual males inevitably do when a woman is a topic of conversation, but more rarely do when a man is a topic of conversation. I simply used his comment as a springboard - it was absolutely not meant to be accusative of him.

I haven't read you put it this way, and I appreciate that.

We peak and then start to die sometime in our late 20s. Unless someone had a total metamorphosis (or was just sho' nuff hideous when young), age is a factor in physical attractiveness.

I wasn't offended by your post. And I wouldn't have been offended to read a woman say what you said.

What I will say is that nobody here speaks about women that way.

Most men in influential or powerful financial positions don't look as good as the women they marry. That's because a lot of women, in their quest to not be seen as shallow, pursue the money over the physique...

Is that because they otherwise don't have comparable access to achieve the levels of money he can acquire? I imagine if women were the wealthy ones, we'd see a lot more trophy husbands.

Back on topic...Went back and listened to the Politics Pod's review, and they, too, mentioned how Harris got under Trump's skin, and how Trump never used her name, even though he has been fond of making fun of it on the road.

It was nothing monumental, analysis wise, though they did seem to say they thought Trump didn't know how to interact with a powerful Woman of Color. That seems so true, and seems to have been a great subtlety in this debate.

They have access to enough to not have to lure the wealthy old guy. Copper diggers, fine. Folks gotta eat. Gold diggers? Come on...

    Yep, no doubt.

Trump doesn't know how to interact with a powerful woman of any color. He was uneasy around Merkel, IIRC. I don't think he'd be any less flustered if Harris were White.

I also wonder how much humor Harris could have injected into this debate if Trump hadn't chosen Vance. With a serious running mate AND whatever momentum from the shooting, he might be way ahead.

Tell ya what- with the level of ridicule Trump's getting right about now, it's even more crucial that Harris win.

On the contrary, it's you who doesn't understand. MTG is a racist, sniveling piece of shit whose racist and sniveling personality led her to become a Republican. Once she told a Black man she was afraid of him, nobody had any further responsibility to defer to her humanity when commenting about her ol' Missing Link-lookin' degenerate Scottsboro Girl in waiting ass, because that's all she is at that point. Nothing she does or will do will change that. You'd call me sexist for making an ugly comment about Ruby Bates' appearance. It's a shame you can't always compartmentalize enough to see who's worthy of human decency and who isn't.

"So easy, MTG could do it"... If The Flintstones was a documentary... they don't even make parts for a Mr. damn Potato Head that look like her...

Those who worship God move their heads away from the one they worship, in deference.*. Those who worship Satan lift their heads away from the one they worship.

*AIUI this prayer pose became common during feudal times, as a mimicking of how a vassal declares allegiance to his lord. Before then, again going from memory, people would hold their hands open facing slightly upward, and look up and face God. It was a gesture of welcome and openness, not one of deference.

Just to throw this in there, Victoria Price was the evil one in the Scottsboro case. Ruby Bates ended up testifying for the boys. Also, Greene is a terrible person and I'm glad the Frankenstein she helped create is turning on her.

My uncle, (who fought with against Rommel in north Africa), once told me what happened if you got severe sunburn and heatstroke because you didn't wear your proper uniform in the sun... apparently you were put on a charge and it was described as a 'self inflicted wound'.
