Fifa approved a new rule where tou can sub 5 players in, but can still only stop play 3 times to combat Covid shortened seasons.
Out for dinner at 1 of our 2 new favorite places, Red Eye Brewing. My lovely partner asked if I wanted to stay home and watch the game. I said "No, I can watch later." Sounds like I made the right decision.
Xfinity streaming didn't work, so I ended up watching the game on the TV downstairs with @willydonc for the first time in years probably. This was such an absolutely "meh" game. I remember back last year when the Red Stars would have "boring 3-0 wins." They were exactly what you'd expect out of the team, nothing too interesting. This felt like being on the other side of that. Just a boring and ugly game that I could not bring myself to care about. The Fire did everything but anything. They pressed and pressed and then NYC would just have the ball. And NYC didn't even try on their attacks either. All three goals were so weak, the goalkeeping was pathetic. Sparrow is still better than Kronholm (and prettier too). This is the sort of game where it feels like there's potential for the team, but they don't care about using it. The only fun bits of it was when Collier was bumbling around being a living meme on the pitch (almost scoring on a goalkeeper steal, the weird bike attempt). 5/10, would not watch again. Still better character development than Citrus.
It's unfair to New Zealand, though like us in the good ol' US of A their best athletes play other sports. Great folks, great sports, lousy footballers.
