That may have been the most boring 90 minutes of soccer we’ve played all year. Even the +4 at the end failed to provide much excitement. We just never seemed that interested in scoring.
Nashville wasn't interested in playing after the goal, the Fire just wanted to play it side to side and back to the defenders. Even the last play, they didn't bother to put it into the box. This team misses Rafa, there was no confidence tonight.
Nashville was a team that may as well have had BEAT ME printed on the front of their shirts and the Fire were helpless.
Right, it's not always about 'talent'...sometimes its about quality, workrate, decisions and heart...and he was missed.
Frustrating match...but I have a strong feeling that if the fire had played like this....stressing possession, defense, and probing defenses, they'd probably be better on the season than they currently are. Pete (thinks that's how you play against better talent)
Catching up with this thread at 6am. I saw the Nashville goal and nodded off sometime after that. I woke up briefly in the 61st minute, saw it was still 1-0 and nodded back off. I have no idea what happened but ultimately I am glad I talked myself out of driving 2 hours to see this match in person because I was toying with the idea earlier this week. Sad I missed an opportunity to post a Peanut Butter Barlow gif though. Drat.
I'd answer yes. From the #cf97 hashtag tweeters Teams the Fire have lost to this season: St Louis (13th in West) San Jose (14th in West) SKC (12th in East) NER (15th in East) Nashville (12 in East) DC (10th in East) Atlanta (11th in East)
Didn't you hear? We moved out our most talented player Plus our fan favorite 21yr old homegrown simply has not played up to a marquee DP level... Add to that our prized free agent signing from the last off season is a dud... And our intrinsic captain is aging/slowing and did not play last night... Lastly, the one undeniable quality player we have had the night off due to his wife giving birth... So, yea, Nashville played with better talent than us last night.
I'm sure that was a joke...but for those that didn't get it... Hugo is neither a dud nor a "free agent"...we "bought him" from K.A.A. Gent The MLS free agent we signed was "was our primary target in free agency in the offseason" that was touted as "a well-rounded central midfielder with strong leadership qualities and a track record of success"...and has been "meh"
ahh that's right we did buy him..fair enough...and if you meant Acosta..yes..I have not been overly impressed.
You gotta love that the poll has: 1 vote for GGG in 1 vote for GGG stay the hell away and 1 vote for Don’t like it but we could do worse Really hard to be more apathetic than that.
Speaking of expectations of Acosta being a leader and stuff, why has Herbers and Gimenez been given the armband and not Acosta since Shaqiri left. I agree that Acosta has not played to his abilities he has shown at other clubs, but it is not like Herbers and Gimenez have been covering themselves in glory with their play at all this season. I know he has been injured, but I'm still surprised at the lack of minutes for Pineda considering the need for CBs playing with 3 and the injuries to Teran and Rafa. I don't mind him playing where Gimenez has been playing since he is faster and a better defender than Gaston. I really don't like watching this zombie version of the Fire.
It's made more complicated when a(n apparently deserving) captain steps down... The captain's armband is a funny thing, in that it has specific 'authority' and 'rights', but is almost always a cultural fail when 'anointed' to a veteran, the best athlete, or a stat leader that does not exhibit the integrity, character, work ethic, compassion and valor...and often humbleness...that inspires the roster. At the moment, the armband falls to a 'leadership council' 🔥🚨 The Chicago Fire will not name a permanent captain for the rest of this season following the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri, Frank Klopas confirms.Kellyn Acosta, Gastón Giménez, and Fabian Herbers comprise the leadership council.#cf97 #vamosfire pic.twitter.com/IzFMHfiB5I— Alex Calabrese (@amcalabrese12) August 21, 2024 It's puzzling. Mauri had a good run of form and then something changed. I can recall one 'not great game' but it sure seems like there is more to it. Hope that's not true and it's just some bad luck with his health that he will come back from. Seriously...it's been a bizarrely disappointing season. And it was clear it was going to be that way after losing that string of games (4?) in May and our anointed captain went 'walk about' after the 5/24 game. 1 home game to go before the (next) reboot
All year we’ve struggled to replace Shaqiri’s captaincy when he’s been away on international duty. What’s most telling is that it never went back to Czichos.
Frankly until they make it so ONLY the Captain can talk to the refs like in hockey (caps and assistants in that) then I care less about who wears the armband. I hate the mobbing the ref thing.
