So, after weeks of inactivity (and an almost three week international break), the Fire are back in action against of the two teams they have actually managed to beat this season. As a reminder, the Fire began the season at 2-3-0 (WLD), with 5 goals scored and only 1 conceded. Since then, the Fire are 0-2-7, scoring 8 goals and giving up 20. The Fire have taken up their traditional position at the foot of the table. This is not a last place team, but they sure have played like one. The good news is the Fire beat DC United 2-0 last time they played. The Fire are the only team in the East below D.C. United, who are on 14 points. Hey, if anyone needs a pair of front club tickets for the game tonight, PM me. I was planning on driving to Chicago for the match, but I had a last minute 500 mile trip for client meetings yesterday (Wausau to Milwaukee to Madison to Adams County) and I just don't feel like another 500-600 miles in the car today. I know it is last minute, but let me know. By the way, Shaqiri and Torres may not be in the lineup. “(Shaqiri is) day-to-day right now,” he said “We are still trying to make a final evaluation on that but he did just slightly strain his hamstring. We'll know more in the next couple days as to how severe that is. “(Torres is) still nursing his ongoing injury, but he's making progress in that,” Hendrickson added. “So again, that's another day-to-day stuff that we are trying to make sure we get him back fully fit before we put him back on the pitch.” https://www.chicagofirefc.com/news/...et-for-d-c-united-rematch-saturday-at-soldier Remember the game is in Spanish on Univision/TUDN, not on WGN/ESPN+. With the new Apple deal coming next season, there will be no more issues about where we can go to skip the games. Yes, there will still be ESPN games and, possibly, games in Spanish. Who's ready to spend $20-30 a month to watch Fire games on a streaming service!?!?!?!?!
Ive been mulling those numbers over in my head and I honestly wouldn’t mind spending $30 to watch the Fire tear up the league on a monthly basis. I’m less keen on spending any amount to watch the Washington Generals of MLS hold up the table for what seems like the tenth year in a row. I’ll probably pay for the first few months to see what the team looks like and then revert to my usual Apple TV+ plan for the remainder of the season once the bottom falls out and Heitz signs an extension.
Actually, today happens to be the Juneteenth tailgate. Anyway, the Fire don't have an offense, but I also don't see them conceding after bringing back the full strength defense from the beginning of the season. We haven't seen that defensive 4 in a while due to suspensions and injuries; but if it's out there, then it's a scoreless draw.
Gorgeous day for a match. I wouldn’t even consider starting Shaq or Torres tonight, honestly- let them rest and if we need a late match spark (spoiler alert- I know, I know) then maybe bring them in but against DC at this stage of the season I’d just as soon rest them and hope their 100% for the next match. Something stupid happens, rubber dick, DC sucks, Chicago wins 1-0 off of an early 2nd half Herbers(!) goal.
Shaqiri and M.Navarro are OUT Torres is QUESTIONABLE, but Ezra said "make sure we get him back fully fit before we put him back on the pitch.”...so not expecting him to play, and if he does it will be 60min or less. Expect Guti for Shaqiri, but it's anybodies guess for the other two. LB could be Johnny, AJ, or Espinoza RW could be Herbers, Ivanov or Offor.I put my guess in order of most likely to least likely Predicted XI: ......................Pryzbylko ......Mueller........Guti.........Herbers ...................Fede.....Gimenez JohnnyB...Czichos..Omsberg..Sekulic .........................Gaga Also curious to see if Wyatt returns to the starting XI or if Teran gets a go.
Thanks for chucking the poll and thread together. I just stumbled in after giving my father in law an assist on cutting his grass. He's still capable but his companion is in the hospital after busting a hip with Hodgkins as an underlaying condition so he's been busy running to and fro and is a bit stubborn so wifey and I just had to show up with the damn mower and jump in and get it done despite him saying, "I'm not a damn invalid!" Now...I have ESPN+ but gather this game is on TUDN? And WGN? I'm in Kentucky so if anyone has a stream or link to any other way of me getting this game I'd love to see it. I sort of planned my night around it but didn't get my hopes up because if I can't watch it what is the point? I have some Bulleit and some Hazy IPAs so I can always listen to tunes (I will have to post my new discovery in Bunge's Non Metal thread) and forget about these damn games. My son is in the section tonight so I will be getting his updates and I prefer to watch. Streams are appreciated.
Don’t got any of those channels. Thanks MLS. Way to support your supporters. I guess I’ll have to watch Rhonda Shear Intimates on HSN. So much better while downing shots of Becherovka.
I just came in after about 3 hours on the lawn tractor mowing my lawn. Sorry to hear about your father-in-law's companion. That is the English SAP version of the Univision feed. The show on Dish Network is on a three second delay from the twitter stream. Weird
Sorry, forgot to post the line up. Strange Herbers did not start. Of course, neither did Offor or Duran. Three actual attacking players (Przybyłko, Mueller and Ivanov). Gimenez took the first corner kick for the Fire.
Can someone explain to me why Luka's contract was not picked up for 2022? It makes no sense. He was joint leading scorer, not very expensive ($314,000 base, $374,000 guaranteed), not too old (28) and a decent option.
Wellllll....Aside from the woodwork, it was mostly a dull half but I am happy to be watching it with Whiskey and beer. Say how is the Lightning bug/firefly situation up there in Chicago? I've been kinda disappointed this year. It's PEAK time and I have seen nary a big!
You think hardcore Fire fans would pay $20-30 a month for this product week in and week out? I'll say, "No." I can watch EPL (which sucks, but still), Bundesliga, LaLiga, etc. as part of my Dish Network, without any additional cost. MLS is not a "mass consumption" league and never has been (well, not since 1996). It is not EPL or NFL, where "casual fans" will watch games even if they don't follow the teams playing.
Sekulic gets away with a nasty ankle tackle, deserving of at least a yellow card, possibly a red. Uh oh, VAR is taking a look. Sekulic is fortunate to avoid any punishment.
A surprisingly decent free kick from Gimenez, which should have been rebounded into the goal. Every Fire player was too deep in the box.
Ivanov off the field, Herbers on the pitch. Ivanov was "okay" tonight, but not much better than that. Weak effort by Herbers, well wide.
