I am sorry to be the carrier of bad news but.... Last Sunday's pickup game among the Ultras lead to an uncontrolled fight between two factions known as Elka and Jagiellonia. Things got so bad that several Niles police units had to arrive to the scene. Their misunderstanding of the situation lead to active resistance on the Ultras' side and consequently to a number of arrests. At least one member of the Ultras had to be taken to the emergency room for treatment. In the light of these events the leaders of Fire Ultras '98 decided to suspend any future activities indefinitely. Marcin
Marcin, I am deeply sorry to hear that. I truly believe that without the Ultras and their spirit and passion that section 8 would never have become what it is. Your dedication to the Fire is astonishing, and I pray that you guys can settle your differences in time for the season to start so that we can again show the rest of the league that we are THE extra man. That being said, it IS April Fool's Day, and I am hoping that this just might be a bit of an April Fools gag...
I REALLY hope this is an April Fools joke. Lets face it, the Ultras carry section 8 and without them there, it would really suck.
There are "factions" of the Ultras? Isn't it only like 20 guys? Isn't the older Polish community embarassed of all the young, drunken, Polish idiots in Chicago? I could never understand why can't these bums learn to live life in a civilized manner. Signed, Matt StachelSKI
I think translations of "Elka" and "Jagiellonia" might let us in on the joke, if it is one. Which I'm leaning towards, for obvious reasons. Niles police? Anyone? Later, COZ
I tried to translate those on an online page but they didnt come up, although that is probably because im not using the right characters for Polish. Joke or not this is sure making us work!
I think we are the only team that has an Ultras group. Although maybe if you supported an MLS team you would know that.
Of course, by "halftime" mike really means "2 AM". And by "Spartan stadium" he really means "Route 101 Rest Stop". And by "ultras" he really means "Pinky Drysdale's Tutu Brigade". Same difference, though.
I'm guessing Elka is the pronounciation of the initials L.K. which could stand for Legia Kibce, or supporters of Legia of Warsaw in the Polish league's first division. Jagiellonia is a club in Bialystok, in northeastern Poland (or its a night club on Belmont named after the 3rd oldest university in Europe but I'm guessing these guys didn't go to university) currently in 2nd place in the Polish second division. The two sides met for the Polish Cup Final in 1989, which Jagiellonia won, but then came a massive turnover of players, and Jagiellonia has remained in the 2nd division ever since. And I have to figure there's got to be some Wisla fans in there, too. But then again, not being a member, this is all speculation. Still, I guess with such fan loyalty divisions, this would be like having Fire and Metroscum fans in the same club. And so it appears during a friendly match between the two factions, a foul probably caused both sides to come to blows and the cops arrested a few who resisted arrest. That said, I have to agree with Stogey. Before they got their act together, the antics of the Ultras were down right embarassing. I, too, however, am disappointed if they've disbanded because anything that hurts the Fire isn't good.
Well if its not a joke(which i think it is) this doesnt mean that you all arent going to stop going to matches anymore does it. Fire fans are (if you can call it this) rivals of dc fans. realistically our two teams have the best fans in the league, the loss of any of those would be a loss to both our teams and MLS.
Tick Tock Tick Tck Marcin, You have less than two hours to tell us all that this is a joke. And please do!
I got back from dinner just now with them. They are dumbfounded any of you even fell for it slightly.
I'm coming home in about 9 days. I might just have to smack them all. But it's my fault for falling. My avatar is pretty much how I feel right now. Congrats Marcin. You were the only one to fool me today.
