So - you are saying he is overqualified? I like the timing of the departure with DC's opening.

We could do a lot worse than hiring Dave Sarachan, and we probably will.

I know. Seems like a no-brainer which is why it won’t happen.

"After failing to strike a deal with two domestic contenders, D.C. United’s coaching search has pivoted to Europe and at least four candidates, including former Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet and Belgium-based Hernán Losada, people familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Losada, a 38-year-old Argentine who coaches first-division Beerschot, is probably atop United’s list, said one person, who, like the others contacted for this story, requested anonymity in order to speak freely about the matter."

Losada is a better option than Clotet

(honestly I'd call Eddie Howe ASAP and see if we can lure him in)

I think Eddie Howe was one of the earlier foreign candidates on United's list!

Translating the Belgian article (https://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20210115_95372864), it says that Losada is under contract until 2024. Is DC willing to pay off both Ben's AND the (potentially) new coach's contracts? I seriously doubt it.

Does anyone in the team know that Dave Sarachan is available right now?

You can debate Juliper vs MLS, but only one leads to a Europa League spot, which at present, Losada's team holds a slot for. Not the UCL, but still not something I'd leave for MLS. His career arc hasn't hit MLS yet.

And the other guy, Clotet, go read his Wikipedia page. A bit strange, whatever happened with him and Gary Monk and not exactly dripping with success.

I still think it will be the Chad 2021 show.

SURE hope you are wrong about it becoming the Chad show. Delusional to think the 'assistant for life' can pull the team out of the same program he was a big part of creating. Saracan would be miles better IMO. If it is as u said then there will be a couple extra season tickets spots open.

Losada signed a 5 year contract with them in 2019 when they were in the 2nd division, so I'm guessing that's not _that_ huge a number. More likely this just results in the Saudi prince that owns the team renegotiating his contract. I wish that last sentence was a joke.

Transfermarkt values of DC and Beerschot are comparable, with DC having the edge, FWIW.

Its not that I want Ashton, but I think the team's pattern of thriftiness or just plain shallow pockets that lead me to a place where it's not a tough one to rationalize for the FO. I don't think they want to be in the business of playing multiple coaching staffs. They barely want to pay a playing staff.

There will be fewer open STM slots than you think. With few exceptions, everyone who was an STM last year is still an STM. Lots of people opted for the 2 year price freeze too. I did, it represented a good deal for us and as much as I want the team to win, we this mostly for our kids. DCU delivered 2 games last season, we've paid for them all, so we're essentially a season of games owed and I really do doubt that you'll see full stadiums this year. DC seemed to take a pretty safe and conservative approach to things last year so it's hard to see that changing this year. I think you're looking at late summer before you any kind of appreciable numbers in the stadium so that probably the better part of an entire year still owed coming out of 2021.

I'll bet they're glad that it's the away shirt that's due for a refresh this year rather than the home shirt. I just hope they haven't wasted a good, 1998 inspired design on it.

STM go down every year for the last 5 years at this club. They drive them away in droves.

I've already told the club I'm not renewing after being on board since '96. I was locked into a 2 year gig so my sentence us up after next season. Then, it will be over for me.

DCU can’t even get a TV deal it’s not a shocker people don’t want to pay STM prices. It wouldn’t surprise me if half the posters only follow the team because of BS.

How'd you pronounce Beerschot? Is it like "beer-shot?"

it is pronounced at 0:04. The SCH - sound is hard to mimic for non Flemish/Dutch speakers.

The always knowing/accurate Football Manager database shows his style as being a very technical and attacking style (that makes me happy). He also apparently likes to play with 3 men in the back in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Short passing posession focused.

So, just to start the baseless speculation:

    ---------------Kamara
    ------------Flores--Arriola
    Mora--Moreno--Canouse--Gressel
    -----Birnbaum--Pines--Brilliant
    ---------------Hamid

    *Pines as stopper IMO.
This style will run those wingbacks into the ground much like Olsen's did. We will need at least 6 right and left wingbacks in that formation.
