If the MLS is to ever succeed, they must start with small quaint stadiums. I know they need to develope a fan base to generate revenue 1st, but how are you going to get those fans??? Please leave your thoughts. Thanks, Patrick
They need a stadium but Daley is an *********************. I remember Peter saying that we should be able to break even when we return to SF.
MLS markets You would think that Chicago with a large Hispanic and immigrant population who REALLY like soccer would get a clue and back a true $$$ maker. Also how in the heck can MIAMI lose their club...the Fusion last year after the year b4 winning it all??? South FL is VERY Cuban and Latino...what gives??? Thanks, Patrick
what does that mean??? I am confused. What is wrong with stating the obvious. Latinos and European immigrants love soccer. I mean besides the USA, football rules the world. Just asking what gives with the MLS heads? Later, Patrick
Semantics I was talking about the Chicagoland area. My wife is a big marketing guru. I am just telling you what I see, that the MLS is not being marketed that well and coming off a great showing by the USMT in the World Cup too. I just don't get it. Thanks for your time. Patrick
Re: Semantics We all know MLS marketing is poor. The Miami Fusion was a good example. They played in Fort Lauderdale, an area that doesn't like being associated at all with Miami. But the team was still called "Miami." They tried to go with a Latin marketing flavor. This despite the Cubanos down there are baseball fans. As are the Nicaraguans. As for post World Cup marketing attempts, hey, you're preaching to the choir on that one too. Perhaps we will see an end to the tired Ole, Ole, Ole television campaign here in Chicago next year.
I know for some this is going over old ground, but Patrick's new, so I'll let him in on another angle. I guarantee you that if you compare the average attendance of every pro sports team in Miami to their league's average attendance, you will find it's lower. There is not a strong local desire to attend sporting events on a regular basis.
Re: what does that mean??? Sure football rules the world, but like you stated, not in the us. The Fire front office have been trying to market MLS since day one, especially to the Latino market. I think it depends where the Fire play. I guess it's safe to say while they were in SF, they had a decent(albeit small)size Latino following, same with Polish and not a very big suburban market. Now that they're in Naperville, it's kinda the opposite. Bigger suburban market, smaller minority. Anyway, my point is, the Fire have ALWAYS been trying to market MLS, but it's hard trying to market a sport that's normally associated with mainly 2 groups. Soccer's just not popular in this country. It takes time....lots of it.

Re: Re: MLS markets That was because the league apparently, unbeknownst to all of us, relocated the Kansas City Wizards to Miami. A terrible, terrible idea. Okay, we have a new guy here (welcome Patrick). Is there any way to access the pre-crash threads on the stadium search so he can get a hint of the drama that evolved over hundreds if not a couple of thousand posts on three or four threads? That would help him put some of our more cynical responses in context.
