Will they make the playoffs? And how far will they go?

I am guessing playoffs and 1st Rnd exit.

And I'll go further by saying that Beasley will be breaking it.

I think if the Fire stays healthy and doesn't get hurt by callups and card points badly, you'll be in the upper half of the league. And as for playoffs, if you time it right and get hot when the playoffs start--just look at NE last year!

However, if people go down with injuries (and I don't mean a repeat of last year, I mean if you have just a "normal" run of injuries which would typically mean losing 1 important starter for the season or most of it and having 1-2 other starters miss chunks of the season) then you'll have problems. I think Sarachan is a fine coach, I think getting Armas back is a huge boost. I also think there is some fine young talent on this side (and as long as Fire fans don't expect significant contributions from Jaqua, Mapp, Capano or others this year, or expect Kelly Gray to be dominant this year) than you're looking at a fine side in 2004. B/c then you'll be going in with cap room, lots of good, cheap, Americans, probably an allocation (assuming you don't use the one you have this year). This is a transitional year I think--and it's one that Wilt and Co. have positioned the Fire (despite the off-season bloodletting) very well--as long as the 11 starters stay very healthy.

Agreed. If we take the first round to Game 3, I'll consider the season a success. Any more than that would be gravy.

In the USOC, we'll make it to the quarter-finals.

If we take the first round to Game 3, we'll be in an alternate universe.

First round of playoffs is home and home aggregate goals, now.

    D'oh!

Sorry, I'm just not used to MLS doing anything like the rest of the world...

Tell that to the MLS teams who don't make the play-offs and who get bounced from the USOC by some PDL side.

Let's see, new coach, new squad, lots of kids. I'd say first round of play-offs and quarterfinals of USOC wouldn't be too shabby under those conditions.

Why do I feel strangely positive about this season, despite the upheaval in personnel?

    1. Solid defensive corps

    2. Younger squad, less injuries.

    3. Beasley playing a more assertive offensive role, Razov netting his usual tally of goals, etc.

I would say hovering about .500 (which maybe the predicament of every team in the league), semi-finalists in MLS Cup and US Open Cup.

We haven't even seen him play yet. I'm saving my judgements for the draftees for when I see them.

Wasn't the whole point of someo of our draft picks that they are guys who could contribute NOW rather than being development projects for next year? I'm expecting contributions from all our younger players. Maybe they won't start, but I'm hoping they get plenty of minutes this season.

I have NEVER been wrong with my predictions in the past, so here it goes:

    1. Cobi Jones will be an @$$.

    2. Dallas will suck.

    3. Crew fans will whine.

    4. Graziani will dive (US, Ecuador it's all the same).

    5. NY/NJ will "win" a special weighted lottery.

I never have a doubt that the Fire can win the Cup. I mean certainly this year..the odds are really against us more than they have been but whats the point in going to the games if you dont think they can win?

Either you knew about it before or your 1-1.

If we stay healthy and don't get hurt by the National Team Callups, I see us go to the Semifinals, with alittle luck to the Finals
