"Private investment firm Andell Holdings has closed its deal to buy the Chicago Fire soccer team from sports giant Anschutz Entertainment Group, the companies said."

A term sheet was agreed a little while back, but now it's a done deal. AEG down to 1&1/2 teams?

Good stuff. That means AEG is down to two teams and HSG is down to two teams. We're almost at the point where each team has their own owner.

    excellent.

Does anyone have any rumors of the sale price?

If I am not mistaken, this is the first MLS sale of a team that was already in a SSS.

My understanding was that the stadium was not part of the deal. Toyota Park is owned by the city of Bridgeview. I could be wrong though

Right, but his point was the team was already playing in a SSS when sold.

The stadium is owned by the village of Bridgeview, however AEG held the management contract. But...

not really. Red Bull purchased the team 3 years before a SSS will be available.

I know that, but the expenses and revenue streams are so much better in Bridgeview than they were in Soldier Field, I assume that allowed the price of the team to be higher.

So this means it can only be the Dynamo that trade their DP slot to the Gals, allowing them to keep Landon, in exchange for $100K in cap space? :D

In all seriousness, this is why it's good news. Having AEG control (IIRC) 6 of 10 teams was better than having the league fold, but it wasn't a good thing. It was just the best of a bad situation.

It also means that, as bad as Guppy is, the Fire can't be ordered to take Lalas.

rumor was $36mil, not including the cost of acquiring all stadium management rights and AEG relinquishing their concert/event rights to Toyota Park.

Not that it would ever be known but it would be fascinating to see how much it ended up costing Phil to prop up 6 teams, now that he has sold so many of them.

One thing we don't know is just how much money AEG gets and how much goes to MLS from these sales.

So far the sales have been:

COL: ~$?? (anyone remember the ~ sale price for the Rapids?)
    NY: ~$30M
    DC: ~$33M
    CHI: ~$36M

    Wow.

The club in the nations 3rd largest city gets sold and we're only on p.1 still. I'm kinda shocked.

...because every citizen of Chicago would come on BS and rejoice!

BS has seemed to slow down now that Becks is out of the equation though. Certain forums have been very quiet.

    I know.

And ppl work, and they still manage to post 7 pages about developmental players making little money, something we've always known.

I'm just saying that $36 mill is nothing to scoff at and it's actually really big news.

but this is not the first we have heard of this news. We had a thread running on this when it was first rumored and then another thread on this when we found out more about the deal.

All this latest news confirms is that the second round of rumors were right on the money.

If it makes you feel better, we can make this 7 pages of speculation on why more people aren't commenting in this thread.:p
