And for players without an EU passport it’s really hard to bypass MLS. A few guys like Jonathan Gomez have tried it via USL, but we’ve yet to see a real success story going that path (let’s hope Josh Wynder is the first). Versus with an EU passport you can go at 16.
People are irrational about Arena because... 1.) The team failed to qualify for WC '18 with him on watch during the Cataclysm at Couva. 2.) he comes off as a prickly, arrogant ----- at times. But the CV is there, and its patently obvious that while he makes mistakes, he's the most successful domestically produced soccer coach ever, winning every where he stopped except like what, a year or two at NY, where nobody ever won anyway? But he puts people off, so people are irrational about it. He's not the reasoning we didn't qualify. He definitely made some big mistakes the final 2 windows (3 of those 4 final performances sucked after a strong 4 match run in March and the Summer of '17), but we all know the core reasons the team flamed out went far beyond Bruce.
The global market will sort itself out as usual regardless of the Euro/MLS roster distribution on the U.S. Most guys will try Europe if the opportunity is decent. But the bar for what constitutes a decent opportunity will continue to slowly rise as MLS continues to become more attractive.
MLS will continue to grow and become more attractive a league with the only thing really being able to hold it back long term is the fact that the United States is not in Europe and MLS teams will never be able to play in the Champions League. Though maybe we can bring back the Concorde and join UEFA.
I agree. Get the best players available wherever they're playing, Europe, MLS, etc. The tweet quoted is just speculation, and not very good speculation.
STRIKE ONE First strike for me for Poch. Zendejas over any other young winger is a missed opportunity to get new data on players like Paxten or Luna and wasting it on someone who is a known commodity if you knew our pool. The margins of the pool will be a blind spot at first for a foreigner— project mbappe (@starboysfc) October 6, 2024 (you have been warned)
Players get three strikes at each at bat but may get five plate appearances meaning 15 possible strikes. The real question is how many does a coach or manager get?
Poch has already been compromised by the MLS cartel and must be fired asap!! An anecdote that didn’t make the cut here:I’m told Mauricio Pochettino met with some MLS team owners last night and today, to talk about player development and other matters. The Union’s Jay Sugarman and Richard Leibovitch were among the attendees. https://t.co/TT0wjzVa3q— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) September 13, 2024 USMNT boss Pochettino: MLS players may be ahead of European options not playing
Problem is Poch has maybe 10 windows to assess dozens of players that are on the cusp of NT quality. The more you widen the pool the longer it will take to figure things out.
More than prior US managers, I expect that an occasional aspect of Pochettino's US Soccer deal is going to be taking time to humor the millionaires and billionaires that helped pay his salary, along with bigger ones that are wider stakeholders in doing so like MLS owners (and also friends with the ones helping to pay his salary).
Ream? Turner? Aaronson? Morris Musah Busio midfield... Has Poch lost the plot? Only his first game and his lineups are already stale! The first #USMNT starting XI of the Pochettino era 🇺🇸Lineup Notes ⤵️— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) October 12, 2024
Poch gets a one game reprieve but we'll be keeping a close eye on this fraud! Mauricio Pochettino gets his first win as head coach of the USMNT with a 2-0 victory over Panama! 👏🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/SQkRfB0Gir— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) October 13, 2024
Ooh Poch is in real trouble if he can't even please the great Kasey Keller “Personally, I think they [USMNT] need to get beat by 3-0. Then, it would a wake up call that we need to take this more seriously.” USMNT legend Kasey Keller is furious after Mauricio Pochettino let Christian Pulisic and few others depart camp before facing Mexico 😳“Personally, I think they [USMNT] need to get beat by 3-0. Feels like Kasey is panicking. Seems to me that Pochettino has a good sense of our starters. He’s spending time exploring the pool for emerging talent, no? Kasey needs to take a chill pill.
