Lets be honest Keane surely has a much harder time in LA with the lack of talent MLS has compiled for the Galaxy. Start with Arena as manager, then no name hacks like Beckham and Donovan, then when they finally quit playing they were replaced by guys like Gerrard, Dos Santos and have players like Zardes and Gonzo.....

You just can't compare that to the high level players we have here in Chicago. Just isn't fair.

I hope the full level of my sarcasem came across cause it is really really thick.

Oh but Andy believes that scoring can come from across the squad and hires likeminded people.
It's true up until you point out those numbers exactly. Andy is not paying the Keane money and getting the same results except that spreading the low earning DPs out is actually hurting the squad. It's insane when you look at it like that but it's nonsense to Andy cause he's the business man and we're the broom pushers.

 

One of the repeated themes on here (which certainly has merit) is that you don't have to spend big to be successful. People consistently point to RSL and SKC. Those are certainly great examples. While they may not go out and spend "Keane Money," they do go out and spend well. While we sign Gilberto off the scrap heap, RSL just signed Burrito Martinez as a DP. I have followed the Argentine league a bit over the past few years, and I can definitely say that I would be excited if he were coming here. He does not finish as much as he should, but he is a really good forward. He played on two Championship Velez Sarsfield teams, has played the last couple of years at Boca Juniors, he is 29 years old and he is only looking to get out because of the recent Tevez signing. In 2010, he was co-Argentine player of the year with a smallish attacking mid who plays in Spain.

I don't know how many times I have to say it (I KNOW the FO watches these boards) but the Argentine league is a great place to find really good attacking talent that does not cost that much. Forget about Sweden or relegation battling English championship teams. Follow the model that has WORKED in MLS. Piatti, Valeri, Schelleto. These are or have been outstanding MLS players. Hell, even Grazini (who never reached the same heights as these players) was the best attacking player we have had since Blanco. I have a feeling Martinez is going to be a real difference maker for RSL. Unfortunately, we have a scouting department of idiots.

Does trying to get Drogba demonstrate that AH would spend Keane-type money, but is just too incompetent to close on the rare occasion that he would spend the money? Not sure which is worse.

 

I would have given him the benefit of the doubt 4 or 5 years ago but the proof is in the pudding.

The ownership/management are cheap AND they do not know what they are doing.

I mentioned this in threads months ago...

...When I was at the home opener with my significant other I told her he was our big signing. And as soon as I said that he tripped over the ball.

Then I said, "Okay we have a corner kick and this is his specialty"... ...and he kicked it worse than I did when I was 12 years old in the school yard.

That's when I knew this guy maybe should go back to the UK. Simply horrible.

 

I don't know about "simply horrible", I kind of felt like that injury stretch mid-season prevented him from building up any sort of steam. But I will say, that I can't recall a single goddamned time that he actually got the ball past the first defender on any corner kick that he took. I kept waiting for someone else to start taking them, but that never happened...

The fact that he wasn't able to get it done and money wasn't the issue is most concerning. It basically shows what a mess the organization is in.

Keep in mind Drogba still wasn't Keane money. Signing Drogba is like buying a 2005 Mercedes S500, the name says luxury and big bucks but the product costs significantly less than it implies.

Good thing Andy gets to see 3 legitamte DP's while going to LA Galaxy matches
